Overclocking the card can have a huge difference. I had been OCing my CPU (i5 4690k) for a while now but traditionally left the GPU stock settings until now. Using Fire strike, on stock 290x clock, I was only able to muster a 9711. After just a few minutes of tweaking, I got it up to 10934. I think there is some more to be had with the card and my CPU to get the score above 1100, but I think this is good enough without spending hours trying to get the mem/core ratio any better allowing higher clock. If I even get off my butt to water cool the 290x, I might could do better as well. Strangely, I see a slight drop in physics scores with the higher clocks. Unknown yet if it will be enough to make a difference in VR.

Also of note, I wasinspired by this thread to try the new Crimson drivers once again. They installed first shot, so I am pleased. Time will tell how AMD performs with the CV1 and if Crossfire is supported I may well stay team red for now!
