Rift: increases clarity. WOW

I have only had the Riff for a little over a month but I noticed something yesterday that seem to increase the clarity of the image by a lot.

It seems that if i wear the rift a certain way things seem WAY clearer. Im sure this isnt news to many of you but for me it was an amazing find. Let me explain

I have found that if i fully extend the top strap.....then have the back part of the Oculus head strap straddle the "knot" where the neck meets the skull.....and then...... tilt the front part of the rift WAY down...to the point that the nose gap almost completely disappears....it alligns the lenses with my eyes in just the right way. It almost completely eliminated and blur i experinced on the vertical axis of my peripheral vision(it seems less effective of horizontal peripheral blur)

Previoisly, i found myself moving the rift around a lot to try to get the focus just right. But yesterday i didnt have to move it at all.

Maybe you already do this....or maybe the allignment isnt right for your eyes.....but its worth a try. I was amazed at the difference.

Nice - glad you got it adjusted just right for you. Everyone's head is different, so I think all of us will have different ways that feels comfortable and gives us the best image quality.

I found loosening the straps worked well too - mine is loose enough to be taken on/off just like a baseball cap. I started out way too tight. Now I only get 'oculus face' for a few minutes, even after a long session.

Luckily I'm the only VR-ite in my family so adjustments are never required. :)

Yes, with the Rift it's really worth experimenting a lot how it fits you best both for comfort and best visuals. Usually you will get much better results than at first try.

I'm sure a lot of Rift users don't even know that they can tilt it, in addition to adjusting the straps and moving it up/down/around your face.

Even though the IPD adjustment screen specifically tell you to adjust the rift headset vertically so the horizontal bars are sharp, and the slider so the vertical bars sharpen.

Sounds like a lot of people forget, or skip the first step.

For me the right height for the rift is with the top brim practically on my eyebrows and thus my nose is squarely inside the rift.

If I wore it in a similar manner as the promo pictures I would probably see mush.
As I wear it now I can read any text in game, even the tiny distance markers on the left info panel.

That's without SS, and stock orange HUD.

As far as I can tell theoretically and in practice, tilting the main unit down has the same visual effect as lifting it up. That gives you some leeway with respect to desired fit. If it's pressing on your cheekbones for example, you can tilt it up and raise it while maintaining the same focus. If you just tilt it up, the focus will shift.

Very possibly - on my Rift the tilt adjust is quite stiff. Once I got it in the right angle, I felt less pressure on my cheekbones and a little more on my brow. Tightened the very loose top strap up a bit and voila. Less 'Oculus face', clearer and larger sweet-spot.

I doubt the green cross is the best pattern to test with. Oculus (and Vive) should have 3-4 test patterns so you can see if you have it adjusted well without having to be in a game.

I had it for about 3 weeks before I accidently adjusted the tilt and realised I'd not been paying proper attention during the set-up process. Up until then I'd been having to move it on my head slightly every few mins..... I did feel rather silly!!

<Mechanism was too tight - no need> The Rift that is.
