Rift : just to be sure of what I see in ED

Hi,

I just bought a Oculus Rift, mainly for ED and DCS ! I play ED with almost all on ultra or high in graph settings :

and SS@2 in debug tool, almost 90fps in space, not tried on planets (don't have horizons yet).

Just to be sure of what I see, because it's really hard to make a video of it and to compare.

In the cockpit and HUD everything is readable, when I'm in station I can see a lot of things with a little flickering, entrance is really flickering.

In space stars and orbit lines are really awfull, I think it's because it's 1pixel high and SS isn't useful for this.

In space near station @ 8km, solar panels also flicker.

In space it's hard to see ennemies.

But immersion is really really awesome !

Do you have the same ? all of this it's just due to "low res" screens ?

Thanks a lot

Nobody ? :)

and to add : black depth is not terrible : when you are Jumping or in the space you can see a lot of gray, seems not really beautiful

thanks for your feedback

My Rift is hopefully turning up later this week but, from a brief go at Lavecon I can confirm ...

when I'm in station I can see a lot of things with a little flickering, entrance is really flickering.

... that this was the first thing that really struck me. Having heard all these stories about god rays and washy blacks and subtle stuff like that I was like "what about all this horrendous flickering? why am I not reading about this everywhere? is this machine just set up badly?". There's some good stuff over in drkaii's thread ..

.. which I'm hoping might alleviate this although, since I see you're using his profile switcher and mention SS@2 in debug tool, perhaps you've already followed all those tips and are still suffering from this flickering?

I don't fly with the Orbit lines on so I can't comment on that. I don't see much flicker in the stations at all. I do have some slight red wash in the blacks, but nothing particularly bad, and I leterally just plugged in and played. I set everything on Ultra and just go with it. I've never tweaked a setting, and it all seems OK.

I just got my Oculus too and I don't know what tool you are using. I just plugged mine in and played. I set everything to Ultra with a 1080 GPU and it works very well. Nothing flickers to me, or if it does, I don't notice it!

Thanks for your answers

Maybe flicker is not the good word to use, but thin lines or solar panels rotating are not clear as on my screen, due to pixel density I think.

you're talking about aliasing. what you've described is normal for the current build of Elite. there are ways to minimize is such as setting card AA to it's highest and using the oculus debug tool set to 1.8 pixel density while leaving the game set to 1.0.

There's little baby god rays coming off the lights on my cockpit stick in game. Can read the word safe for the fire cover button
