Hardware & Technical RIFT or VIVE ?

A question for those that like their reality a little more virtual .... which is considered the better VR headset (for PC) is it the Occulus RIFT or the HTC Vive?

A mate of mine had one of the first Rifts and had nothing but issues with it , this was a while ago and I am assuming the tech has matured somewhat by now. So I was wondering who the current top dog is.

Thanks

rift, unless you're ready to spend a lot on the overpriced vive pro.

actually, this is a good moment to 'wait&see'. pimax 5k+ is around the corner, oculus will probably launch a new headset soonish.

If you have Windows 10, you could also consider the WMR headsets (windows mixed reality). It's very cheap, plug and play, higher resolution and lower GPU load than Rift and works with Steam VR just like the Vive does.
I'm using it for almost a year and can only recommend it.

I too have one of the very first rifts, unless you are counting devkits.

Dodgy units exist for either.
Mine has been working with no major issues for almost a year and a half now.

You should be running w10 for VR regardless.

It depends on what you want it for. If you ONLY want to play games like Elite Dangerous and also driving games (e.g. Project Cars 2 which is great in VR) - anything where you play sitting down, then the rift is fine. If you want to play room-scale VR games go for the Vive as it has everything you need out of the box and was designed for these types of games. I also have one of the first rifts but have not experienced any issues with it. You can play room-scale games with the rift, but you will need to buy extra sensors.
