Rift problem - Brightness increase when I turn my head

I've had my Rift since xmas and it's been fine. However, it seems to have developed a fault. When I turn my head to the right, or sometimes if I physically touch the headset the gamma increases quite noticeably. As soon as I look back to center, it returns to normal. This only happens in Elite as far as I can tell.

Anyone else experiencing this or might know of a possible solution?

Have you tried reseating the cable connection at the headset. If you remove the faceplate you can unplugged the cable. Just a guess.

No, since it's only happening in Elite I figured it was a software problem rather than hardware. Besides, it's only two months old, if there's a faulty connection I'll just return it rather than start taking it apart and potentially voiding the warranty.

There is a thing where the colours in the headset go all pale and washed out to indicate that the headset is losing tracking (e.g. I can make it happen by covering my headset with both hands). Is it possible you're suffering from this? Perhaps you're generally out of clear sight of the sensors and are only being fully tracked when you turn your head? Might be worth re-running the Oculus sensor setup (the thing where you draw out the boundaries of your play area with one of the controllers).

I'm not sure taking the foamy bit off that sits against your face voids any warranty, it just sort of unclips.

Odd it only happens in ED, I find the Gamma goes off the scale when the sensor can't see the Rift properly. If you put your hands over the front of the Rift, it's blocks the sensor.

Edit: Ninja'd!

@Scutter
I wasn't suggesting it was faulty, only that the connection might be a tad loose and causing an intermittent connection. Since you had said when turning my head right and the cable extends off the left. Like I said though it was just a guess.

In following on Alec's tracking consideration, if any of your usb peripherals are acting up or poorly seated they can disrupt tracking. Again just a though. GL

No it won't void your warranty. It is meant to come off so you can clean it or get at the cable should you need to replace it. Oculus sells replacement faceplates and cables should they become damaged. They just plug in to the headset like an hdmi connector. https://www.oculus.com/accessories/

I came across this issue today after a couple of hours of play. Having been given a heads about about Nvidia drivers after 388.59 I rolled back my driver with DDU and it seems to have cleared up the issue, although I only tested for about a 1/2 hour.
