Rift s or Quest with link. First vr unit

I am looking into buying a vr headset for playing ED and and wanted to know what people would suggest between the rift s and the quest with link. I have never tried vr before but excited to play ED with one.

My budget is around the price of these two headsets and I have a 9900k and 2080 ti to run the set so should have no problem pushing max res and supersampling. I also do wear glasses, I know they can fit in both but maybe one is better than the other. Also not sure if the link cable is the way to go (low bandwidth) so leaning toward the rift s if I can pick one up.

Any thoughts?

Or just wait?

I have both and though I’ve posted my thoughts before in the VR threads, the short version is: Rift S

The Quest is certainly impressive as a stand-alone unit and the Link is pretty good, but there’s some video compression going on to get it working through USB3 and a few performance issues when compared to the Rift S. I also found the Quest to be uncomfortable after a while due to it being more front heavy.

I have an i7 8700 & GTX 1080 and have mostly High/Ultra settings with SS1.0 and HMD 1.25, so you should be more than capable with your setup.

You might be OK with your IPD. My IPD is slightly wider than the recommended and I am OK. Apparently being slightly lower as you are is better than being slightly wider like me.
Rift S over Quest anytime. Simple fact, Quest is significantly front heavy, certainly when compared to Rift S and it does become noticeable and uncomfortable over time.
The sweet-spot, the area in the middle of the lenses which is in focus with bigger being better as you don't need to turn your head to keep things in focus, in Rift S is HUGE though. Only a little experience with Quest, might be big there too but the Rift S is massive. Very impressive.

That said you might want to go for something higher spec though because of your PCs specs if you can afford it. Valve Index is the daddy.

What about the hp reverb, does it play nice with steam vr and Ed. I don't really need controllers for ED have hotas and sounds like it have good resolution that my 2080 ti could handle.

Yes I got a Reverb a few weeks ago and it works great with ED. It comes with controllers as well. They are WMR, but I personally have had zero issues playing any VR games(I have Halflife, Recroom, and Pavlov).

I had to lower some settings a little, but I have a 2070 super. It still looks amazing.

Awesome, I have one on the way. Glad to hear the controllers are not too bad, will have to try some other vr stuff as well
