Right... something's not quite right

I absolutely love the sounds in the game, that noise the viper or asp makes as it goes past your ship, with it's mustang (airplane) style noise is fantastic. The booms of hearing your enemy explode.

However...

THERE'S NO SOUND IN SPACE!!!!

Dev's please don't change anything because the sounds make the game feel real, but seriously, think we might have to call it a "Near Realistic Space Sim" and not a Realistic Space Sim moving forward.

This has been explained as your own ship's user interface providing you with an audio experience of your surroundings to improve the human ability to function in space and in dogfights.

Other inaccuracies, such as the top speed thingy, cannot be explained away so easily, though. They just exist to make it a more enjoyable game (definition of "enjoyable" varies wildly, though).

Them sounds aren't what you'd hear (or not hear) anyway, not with human ears.

You CLEARLY have not read your ship Manual!

Simple mistake - READ THIS Commander - all will become clear!.... LOUD and clear ;)

Just like how Star Trek can miraculously let us hear aliens talk to the crew in English, in ED you can hear sounds in space.

Just roll with it :D

However if you're a stickler for realism, just turn off all the sounds in the game.

Us human types do not perform well without sensory input, sensory deprivation would send a pilot oo.
I remember flying in a helicopter back in the 70's that had a fully transparent domed windshield, they had to paint a line horizontally across the screen to give the pilots brain something to cling to :)
Cannot for the life of me remember the helicopter....sioux?

Except 'realistically' you'd still be hearing the internal sounds of the ship, noise transmitted through the hull from the engines and from weapon strikes and so on. Would be quite cool to have an option to switch to just those sorts of sounds, but not like it's a priority.

As other people have states, the in universe explanation is simply that piloting without sound in space was awkward for humans so they developed a means of simulating a lot of the sounds you hear (primarily ones not attached to your ship.)

That being said, a fair deal of the sounds would work perfectly fine, as the inside of your ship is filled with air... and in fact, when your canopy is breached and the air filters out there actually is an audible difference in how everything sounds as it switched all other sounds to simulation as well.
