Ring asteroids don't spawn if you enter on thrusters?

Just thought I'd mention this. Is this a known thing?

If you fly to *just outside* a ring's "impact" range, and manually disengage FS, then fly the rest of the way on thrusters... the asteroids never, ever spawn.

You end up surrounded by the LOD sprites, and sometimes a bit of fog, but no actual asteroids. And when you engage FS to leave, it insta-stops you and drags you back into the asteroids, which have now loaded.

Rather trippy. Needs a bit of work.
 
I'm doing lots of exploring, and I wanted to grab some cool screenies when I saw one of those "mixed" rings, with ice and asteroids. So I flew down between the ice and the rock, trying to get a nice shot between them... then realised the gap was way wider than I thought, and neither side had spawned in properly.

So I flew towards the rocks. Kept flying. Kept flying. Suddenly I'm surrounded by apparently fast moving rock sprites that fade out when they're near me, but no real ones.
 
always been that way, was one of the first things I tried to do in beta, roid fields are just another instance, like stations etc.
 
I would ticket that as a bug even though it is clearly by design. It is a flaw in design and should be added to their list of things that need improving. It would likely require some big changes to make it work the way players think it should but it would also likely be work that could directly prepare the engine for other things like seamless planetary landings.

My point is that being able to enter and leave instances should not be exclusive to Super Cruise. It should be completely transparent to the player. They should never know that there even are instances.
 
Yeah, you're right on both counts. It does need to be improved (since "immersion" is clearly a big priority to the developers), but it does seem to be a matter of current engine design.

I guess supercruise is like flying around the LOD map in Skyrim - nothing really exists in any substantial way until you drop into the real map.
