Rinse. Repeat.

Fair enough. I consider every action in this game a grind, but I'm using the term in a less negative way. Either way, this thread went off topic after the 1st response.

I just want to know why everyone keeps on the grind. Why do we continue to play?

OK, I'll play along and assume you're not trolling and are ernestly asking a question. Any game can be reduced to your "less negative" definition of grind. For example, people have been telling me how great Borderlands 2 is. My friend finally gifted me a copy on Steam a week ago and I've played to level 5. So far, it is a grind, by your definition. Sure, there's a funny robot and some funny NPC dialogs, but at the end of the day, it's take mission, go somewhere, shoot some stuff, return, get reward, rinse, repeat.

So, why do I play? Because it's fun. It's the same reason I play World of Tanks (start a battle, move forward, shoot other tanks, die maybe, rinse, repeat). It's the same reason I play Elite Dangerous. I play because I enjoy the gameplay elements. I play because it's fun.

Why do grown men and women run around after a little ball and try to put it into a net? Why do people run around tracks as fast as they can? Why move little figurines on black and white squares in arbitrary patterns to knock the other guy's little figurines off the black and white squares? It's a game, you do it because it's fun, when it isn't, you don't do it. The credits are there so you can have access to other ships in the game to do the things you like to do. Why do we always make this so complicated?

Now bare with me...I am only five weeks old, but....

After spending several weeks making my living by killing wanted ships, I began to see a pattern(kill dumb pilots over & over & over, etc.). I was cruising, credits in hand, towards an empty void. What to do next?

After 2.1, fighting became more engaging(yeah, that's the word). So it was more entertaining to slaugther the endless amount of piggybanks that entered your zone(with the help of the security, or wing, no solo... don't kid yourself). Even after the increase in A.I. manovuerbility(I personally refer to it as 'The Omnscient Drone'), the credits were still exploding like super novas.

The real question, the reason I authored this thread, why are we grinding all this ing money?

I just saw a film that reminds me of this game. Its called End of Tomorrow: Live Die Repeat. Great film. Better than this game. And it only lasted two hours!
