Horizons RIP crewmate Jason Maddox, March 9th, 3268 - November 7th, 3302

It is with a heavy heart that I've come to say that my brother-in-arms NPC crewmate, Jason Maddox, has been killed in action.

Once an Imperial pilot, Maddox was stricken with a terrible illness that almost ended his life. After his brush with mortality, Maddox left the Imperial Navy to become a mercenary in order to see the galaxy. I met Jason at some hole-in-the-wall station on October 26th, 3302 while searching for a capable pilot to handle my Anaconda's fighter ship. It didn't take long to see that he was a very bold individual that carried himself with confidence, and would never even think of backing down from a fight. He was exactly the kind of pilot I was looking for and I hired him on the spot. Over the course of two weeks, we took part in many dogfights, laying waste to dozens of degenerate space rats.

Before his death, our conquest led us to a Nav Beacon in a system overrun with pirates -- the kind of place Jason was the most comfortable; plenty of danger and lots of bad guys to shoot. We took down several pirates before engaging with a wing of three Deadly Python ships. Expecting it to be a quick fight considering we had control of an armed-to-the-teeth Anaconda and an incredibly fast and hard-hitting Condor fighter, the engagement took a deadly turn when the Condor I was piloting was destroyed much faster than anticipated. With two of the pirates' ships still shielded and one with moderate hull damage, and with our Anaconda's shields already low from previous engagements, we had no choice but to retreat. The pirates focused fire on the Anaconda's thrusters, killing any chance of low-waking away. In a last-ditch effort to save the ship, Jason suggested to take the helm while I boarded one of the life boats. I made a clean escape and was eventually rescued by a Systems Authority Vessel, but Maddox fought hard -- the only way he knew -- and went down with the ship.

Jason Maddox was a brave pilot, and someone every Commander should aspire to be. His combat rating was Expert and was well on his way to reaching Master before his death. Although he was only an Expert in the eyes of the Pilots Federation, he was and will always be Elite to me. May he find peace among the stars. o7

Rest in Peace, Jason Maddox. Space is harsh and one day it will take our life, one way or another.
A salute to all you brave adventurers out there! o7
