RIP Lionhead

No more chicken chasers, no more      Face

It just goes to show that if you rely on a single franchise and a benevolent sugar daddy (Microsoft) then you really don't have control of your own destiny.

I hope that with Frontier staying independent, and diversifying with Planet Coaster, they will have a long and prosperous future. Not just because I love Elite, but because I love the UK games industry.

I'm sure the talented programmers, artists and designers will find a new home. But the world is a slightly more boring place without the quirky, very British, sense of humour that Lionhead brought to the table.

Down by the reeds
Down by the reeds
Swim the sirens of Oakvale
Out to the seas.

Down by the reeds
Down by the reeds
Float the souls left unbroken
by White Balverines

Down by the reeds
Night-blooming weeds
Embrace those who go dancing,
In sad moonlit dreams.

Down by the reeds
A twisted path leads
To Banshees who breathe out
A cold winter breeze.

Nobody knows.
Nobody sees.
The sirens of Oakvale.
Down by the reeds.

Sad news indeed. I loved Fable 2, so much so it killed my first xbox360 via the red ring of death. That said Fable 3 wasn't nearly as good and I suspect that's where the problems lay.

I used to work on the Surrey research park and would often see those guys slow-motion fighting with costume axes and occasionally Peter Molyneux could be seen exercising on the grass in the summer.

In fact, come to think of it - many moons ago I interviewed for a position on the Black & White Dreamcast conversion team. Probably dodged a bullet there.

Hope they carry on the Guildford post-Bullfrog tradition and form a couple of gaming start-ups.

:( oh, another great studio gone off the drain. :(

But honestly, for a while they had no really good games. While? The last one was the first B&W and the first and third fable. Since than?

What i said the last day about EA is also true to them. No new programs just the repeat of the old ones too fast. That's a mistake. the difference is i have no ill will tovard them. on the very opposite! And why im sorry but i cant played with their latest games X box exclusive just like in halo. :/

About MS records as game company? its much more mixed than EA's. they have ups and downs what is mostly normal. you cant always found out what the people wants. but unlike EA they have a few brands on their own, and capable to not mess them completly up.

The biggest problem with Lionhead? IS the fact peter molyneux left them without him, NO real creative mind with them, with original ideas and vision and by looking at peter molyneux record? He is a nomad, He just cant sit ildly in his ass.

And why peter molyneux is left? MS... i guess he is rebellious, against this kind of management. Well, for his case i hope, this time he was going to be able to manage the new company better, or find someone who IS.

My sentiments exactly it seems they rested way to much on their laurels and paid the price. Yes Fable was a great franchise but not worth keeping a whole studio open for. My guess the people will be snapped up elsewhere.

Wery true!

Fable And B&W was a great name, its a sad thing B&W is knocked out, and now fable lost its studio, and so as the latest fable project never going to be finished.

Hello Games is in Guildford (No Man's Sky), and they're recruiting, so hopefully a few will find their way there too. Let's also hope FDev help a few more - excited by Planet Coaster!

The problem with Lionhead as i said earlier is the quitting of Peter Molyneux. When a big gun one of the kind man like he is creating something its not just a piece of matter given form, or a company. A part of him his heart and soul is also there. The whole thing is revolves around him. so if he gone? The whole thing is going to slowly wither and fade away. Because you just ripped out his heart, and to find a man who is capable to fill his place, is not so easy they are not growing on every tree. And if ewen so? this kind of people are all one of the kind, and because of this they are all irreplaceable.

So no! Lionhead is cannot be saved, neither his brands, without the one who created it. Lionhead WAS Peter Molyneux. What i can personally say to him? Don't make himself so irreplaceable if he know, he going away anyway. And he will! Or do differently, make his successor before he is gone, make sure there are others who can continue what he is started.
