RIP stealth builds... Kinda.

I think we all know how to effectively counter a stealth ship. But there can be times when a lock on isn't possible if you lack the emissive rounds, and when you're up against a very quick Viper, Eagle or DBS with dark paints it can blend very well into the backdrop. Nightvision eradicates this, which is the sole highlight to my thread here. So it really does stomp a foot down on any silent runners that little bit further.

Some say you won't use night vision during combat but in the black of space, it only lights up the ship, so it could be mighty effective.

“Quick” implies that the ship is moving, which means it’s emitting a lit up exhaust trail, thus eliminating stealth anyway. You might as well hold up a big sign that says “shoot here!”.

As for leaving night vision on in all combat, that’s a bit like leaving your high beams on in all weather. Not necessary. Plus, one of the big appeals of this game is the visual beauty, which NV heavily detracts from.

If you’re leaving it on at all times for visual efficiency, well, I pity the sort of person who is obsessed with efficiency to that degree. Most folks aren’t like that, thankfully.

What part of silent running is pay-to-win?

The better question is "What part of silent running did does Night Vision break?"

What's that? None of it? None of it all?

The only change is for people who thought a dark paintjob would give them an edge in a fight?

Then I refer you to my previous post, good sir.

What is all this pay to win absolute nonsense? This thread was a hypothetical based on tactical elements in Elite. Black skins pay to win? Lol!

I never got the impression you were saying you were a silent runner, but let's be serious - we all know you were talking about Black Friday skins and the common understanding that they give an edge in combat.

...those murky black little stealth ships you might otherwise have struggled to keep a fix on visually...

What was that again?

...black little stealth ships...

It doesn't take a PhD in literature to figure that one out.

Man this thread has taken a very funny turn. I post a thread to emphasise something incase anybody hasn't thought of it already, then all hell breaks loose on me.

These forums remind me of the left and right battling non stop even over non issues. As I said, I pointed something out with some little examples for emphasis and I get some dude PM me about whining my pay to win build doesn't work anymore? 🤔

Pay to win in Elite, even... Again 🤔

A two-page thread is "all hell breaking loose"? Ok, now that's funny.

You're protesting far, far too much is what's making you look like a pouty silent runner. :)

You mentioned black-painted ships first, not me. If we take you at your word, I was agreeing with your original post, lol.

Edited to add: I also never PM'ed you, so I don't know why you keep bringing up some random PM in your replies to me.

It is when I'm being PM'd with ridiculous flames about being a salty pay to win prototype of a human being. The fact is I just tried to simply emphasise that even with black paints hiding a silent runner a little better in the dark, the Night Vision completely highlights the hull of the ship beautifully, where someone looking to snipe some bits and pieces might even have a better eye on it without even locking onto it.

It was all just a bring up point for the sake of bringing it to the forums for discussion. I got a little volatile myself because my intentions were completely misplaced and it became about me being a salty loser who can't cope with my stealth toys being taken away, according to the inflammatory PM'er calling me an idiot and saying I need to fix my brain instead of whining about my pay to win no longer being effective. Lol.

Ok, so why are you taking it out on me then? I agreed with you about Night Vision removing the perceived advantages of black paintjobs, I didn't accuse you of anything until you kept calling me out, yet I'm the one you keep quoting when complaining about a random PM'er?

Emmisive made me hate a large portion of the player base. If there are any effects that are crutchy for someone who can't fly, it's emmisive.

NV mode straight up finished off the job emmisive did of killing stealth.

Now build diversity is at an all time low in PvP. Supa-shields to cover you or nothing in 99.9% of opponents.

I don't even have the drive to bother updating my client anymore.

Nerfs, not thinking about the consequences when adding content, and or straight up ignoring any clashes it might have and blindly carrying on regardless with more useless plugins is FDevs way.

The KwS, The Honk, Stealth etc etc etc.. Ad infinitum.

I'll stick to playing games that are a challenge in multiple playstyles instead of one where it's own developers crush any variation almost intentionally. It's boring.

Aso. I used to fly with Miko. Alot.

He don't use stealth builds. That was my thing in the group. 3.0 made it very much more difficult to pull off effectively though still somewhat possible.

This travesty added onto all the other stealth nerfs that some imbecsiles think were "fixes" has effectively removed an interesting and challenging way to play the game. Now its the same stuff. As I said before. Ad infinitum.

This is gonna be like Beta all over again..

/sarcasm

...because everyone on general forum played beta and/or read beta forums amirite?

/sarcasm

I care exactly 0.0% either side of the paint/stealth advantage debate - but holy shockers, ppl talking about just released features on release day...wow, can't imagine a beta topic being resurfaced on official release day.

Your ships are covered in lights, and leave engine trails anyway, and the radar still gives you a rough direction to look, and you can hear where the ship is.

So, being lit up like a Christmas tree is probably the least of your worries. :p

a few ships (like the asp scout, not the explorer, which is why i hope it gets an upgrade one day) do not emit any external lighting when in silent running not even when charging the FSD. short boosts with FA/OFF will prevent excessive engine trails.

I want to know what the engine trails are made of. Why are we polluting up space?
