RNG Crafting is a good idea

I usually don't like RNG, but it's a great deterrent for min/maxing. With it's implementation, it will take far longer for people to realize what the new "meta" build will be, if there is one, and most people will have a variety of effects as opposed to the same 3 that would probably occur if RNG wasn't involved. Thanks FD!

EDIT: To clarify, you buggers, I don't believe just because you purchased this game, you are entitled to every single upgrade at your choosing, or at all. The rarity and difficulty of finding the materials for the weapons, which shouldn't be as difficult as 2.0, will most likely make this game great again.

i.e. Thank you FD for wasting my time. Sorry, but no thank you.

And as it being a "great deterent of min/maxing" I 100% agree, because this is a recipe for only maxing. => Grind till all blue.

I sometimes wonder how some of our forum friends manage the adversity of daily life considering their reactions to not having 100% control over everything 100% of the time.

Other people being luckier than ourselves is something we have to struggle against in real life.

Games aren't real life, and should be fun.

Losing a wheel-spin that you have no control over isn't fun.

Actually I think the RNG crafting sounds quite interesting. As for your hightlighted comment, for that to happen we'd need to Pull down that solo/pg wall and the beauty of that is no one would have to pay for it :D

Good point. If things don't go my way I try and try again until I get the result I want.
If it is not possible to get the result I want I simply don't waste the effort in the first place.

I should imagine it's what most people do in real life.

But it's not a great idea as a game mechanic.

Well is it really so bad that you cannot min/max, easily find the 'best' and use that? this seems to possibly make combat more random, of course you want to try to get as good stats as possible, but if they are all within a similar range, is that last 1% damage really going to make you win combat, if it is at the cost of say 1% more heat?

My main worry is that I'll go in for some ordinary laser upgrades, but one of them will end up "special" and then I will end up with a firegroup of two mismatched laser colors. That would drive me INSANE.

Or don't grind at all.

You rarely lose, because you always get a primary status buff, these cool effects aren't the focus.

If that's the case, maybe.

All I want is some damn faster thrusters on my Cobra Mk IV. That is it.

We don't even know yet how the RNG will work, from the way the sliders indicate, it would seem to me that it is the pool rng, meaning a weapon has x stat points, how they are placed is random.

Say you get +1 damage, -1 rate of fire, +1 cooling
would a 0 damage, 0 rate of fire, +2 cooling, be actually 'better' damage wise?
Or would it simply make you tweak your combat approach slightly?

The question I want answered is:

"I am chasing a basic thruster upgrade. A simple boost in ship speed. I do not care what negatives it gives me, as long as the desired positive is achieved. Am I certain to get the desired positive effect? Or is there a chance I could end up worse off, with no positive effect achieved?"

See that's my concern. Are we about to see our efforts totally screwed up & spit into the toilet by RNG? Or is there certainty in getting the upgrades advertised by the Engineer in the first place?

I dont think there will be "negative" results... more like with unwanted special efects along small buff.

I enjoy playing Roulette. I rarely win, but I still find it fun.

More power to you. I don't enjoy it. Should we go into a casino and have everyone to play a space sim to modify the outcome of the roulette wheel?

Both things are fine. Even both things combined are fine.

But starting expressly with one thing and then later tacking the other on top of it.

I mean, I am not surprised that it isn't the holy grail of gaming. It expected it to be meh, after how powerplay turned out. But powerplay was a sideline thing, an option you could gently ignore and keep going your merry way. Engineers not so much, this is a sudden 180° paradigm shift at the very core of the game.
