Engineers RNG is unacceptable

I was worried to write this or not.
but at the end, since nobody else did it, i will try to explain why i think that the RNG idea for the
engineers update must be : changed/modified (at least) or completely removed from the game.

The adding of the Engineers is a nice idea but the way you achieve some upgrades for your ship is totally silly.
How can you accept to waste hours and hours of gameplay trying to find the materials needed for the RNG process and then watching that sort of casino' roulette saying ''sorry, better luck next time'' ?

it's stupid. it's annoying, it's an offence for all the players.

Honestly i am shocked and surprised how this gameplay mechanic was done. I didn't expect such a thing from professional developers like Frontier Devs.
I really hope they can admit the error and put a good patch on it as soon as possible.

What i ask in here is simple.
I propose a couple of ideas from my own, maybe someone else has better ones, idk...

first idea:

Remove completely the auto-random affair and put some manual settings instead.

The player, himself, put some settings and then a random (''the engineer works on it'') effect will give the final result ..that
it will be never (I REPEAT: NEVER) a zero result.

the important thing here is : NEVER A ZERO RESULT
so if devs wants to leave the things as they, actually, are, at least erase the ZERO RESULT from the possibilities.

second idea (plan 'b'):

or... at least, maximize the materials presences, more frequent finds for each kind of materials and no more 'very rare' materials at all.

I have found some materials and i have stored, in my ship, various materials from months.
But i don't want to use them until i will be sure that the result is not Zero.
I don't want to waste them for nothing.

I was tempted also, to open a poll ''Change/remove RNG: yes or not'' but at the end i thought that is useless since it's obvious that the result would be ''yes'' at 99%.

someone else has something to say about this thought ?
