General / Off-Topic Road rage

I follow me dear old dad's advice, 'let em go, let them have the accident'.

Worked well for 30 years.

I have on occasion gunned my engine at the lights if it looks like someone wants a race. Makes them look pretty stupid when they race off and I pull away as usual and slot in behind them at the next set of lights.

Well, it amuses me :)

I don't get road rage, unless someone's really really endangered me or my passengers from really bad driving.
Then I beep at then lots, and usually give them the finger.

It's not really road rage. Lol

I've never had someone try to stop me, or approach my car. I'd probably just not stop anyway, probably just lock the doors and drive away slowly grinning. Lol

But I do absolutely love trying to terrify bad drivers.

Partly because it's fun. Partly because I'm hoping it teaches them something, and partly because if I crash in to them, and it's their fault, it's free money. Lol

People pulling out without enough space or time to get going is a fun one. I pretend I haven't seen them and aim to just miss their car by inches.
Some of the looks I get.... Lol

People being in the wrong lane is good too. If they indicate in advance I'll let them in, that's fine, people make mistakes all the time (even me!). If they just try it push, I won't. It really es them off.

People tailgating me is a great too.
My car has enough power to prevent them overtaking when they can.
Then I slow down when they can't.
Then randomly put the brakes on.
But I still won't let them past.

Bad parking is a good trolling opportunity too. Bad in the day when my friends and I had real old bangers, mine was a 1994 ford escort, and my friend had a 1995 Suzuki swift I think (in 2003). And we both worked at our local supermarket, in Cornwall. We only had a small carpark, being a small store.
During the summer, when all the toff came down in their £80,000 toff mobiles, they'd park taking up, not 2, but FOUR spaces.
So my friend and I would wait until they'd gone in the store, then fold in our mirrors, and park so there was only about 1 inch to open the door.
We also did this at the beach, which also had a tiny carpark, full of badly parked toffs.
We didn't care, our cars were rusty and old.

It's a shame we didn't film the reactions.

After a while, they'd go off to look for someone to blame, then we'd sneak in and move our cars.

Brilliant.

See this part right here? That breaking the law, and quite seriously...its actually a worse offence than tailgating ande if recorded will see ye lose yer licence in one go as its classed as dangerous driving with intent. Yer using the car as a weapon so ye just contradicted yerself by saying ye dont get road rage...this example is the very defiition of road rage. If it were me, Id hand the recording into the peelers because those are the sorta actions that cause accidents in the first place.

Last time this happened, I was forced onto the hard shoulder doin about 90...peelers stopped both of us but let me go and charged the other guy and told him his car would be towed and to find an alternative way home...true story.

Of course, there are other ways of getting to ye...overtake, get in front and then do the exact same thing to you as ye slow down to about 20mph. And Im in a car very few other cars can beat in a flat out race so by all means...

Thats provocation that causes road rage in others so yer antagonizing a situation which otherwise wouldnt happen at all, and yer breaking the law to do it...quite seriously so actually. Its against the law in this country to coast on the overtaking lane fer no apparent reason blocking others...look it up, its an actual law.

So who is worse? The guy who gets annoyed and gives the finger? Or the guy risking his own life and everyone elses to cause it to happen in the first place? In order of magnitude, the guy who intentionally goes looking fer trouble is the one the law will deal with more harshly, and yer example is exactly that. Yer one the reasons guys like me have dashcams in the first place...if I go into yer rear end, the camera will show it as your fault and yours alone ^

A big reason I don't drive is because of how aggressive I get with morons.

That and I'm terrified of being in cars. Seriously, I hate it.

I pay a premium for my bus service as there happens to be a reserved road with no traffic.

I'm more terrified of busses than cars. Lol

I had to ride a bus a few months ago for the first time in about a decade, because my car spectacularly died on me.

Jeeeeesssuuussss!
I thought I was going to die. It was only for 2 miles in to town aswell.
And talk about road rage, the bus driver was swearing at everyone and everything. World's most angry bus driver... Lol

I brought a new car the next day.
No more busses for me. Lol

Ah, sorry, I probably misrepresented myself there.

I wasn't talking about dual carriageways or motorway either, I meant the single roads, usually the windy ones where you can't really go that fast anyway.
I'll speed up on the straights, and slow down when there's a bit of oncoming traffic or corners. (Which I generally do anyway).

By "slow down" I meant return to the speed limit or a safe speed. And by putting the brakes on, I meant driving with my foot resting on the brakes. Lol

I don't actually slow down, they just think I am. It gets them to back off every time.

If someone is tailgating me when I'm driving slowly (for whatever reason, lost, looking for an address, tired, etc), I let them past.

But if I'm doing 60 in a 60 zone, and they're humping my number as if to say "break the law, I'm in a rush because I have a BMW!", then I'll annoy them. Lol

If at any point they go to overtake, I'll let them go. I won't intentionally keep someone on the wrong side of the road by speeding up, even if they are being a moron.

Ah well a single lane minor road is an entirely different scenario...the guys who do that very thing on the motorway are the ultimate morons imo...and a lot easier to deal with so long as yer ready to break the law yersrlf. Get on the inside lane to undercut and kill speed to match theirs...if they continue and they hit ye, then chances are they crossed the white line so the law doesn’t regard it as a rear end accident but a moron driving dangerously without due care and attention.

If it’s proven they were feathering the brakes, they would be charged under criminal law and lose their books fer 18 months minimum. They will also find about half the insurance companies either won’t touch them at all or triple their premiums as they seem as a risk on the roads and would recommend gaining a doctors note stating they are mentally fit to have a licence at all.

Ive come across drivers before who do this very thing on the worst roads to do it on...on such cases I’ll hang back until they think I’ve given up...before doing something that could potentially give them heart failure.

And if I get in front of them...believe me I’ll do far worse to them than they did to me ^

I like fast Italian cars...its a lifelong passion and that in itself makes me an arrogant moron on the road...but I already know that ^

Arrogant moron maybe, but with excellent taste then! :D (I remember from a past thread...was your a 147 GTA by any chance?)
Curious, in Italy it would be owning fast german cars that would make you a moron on the road...I wonder if in Germany it's British or French cars then! :p

Jokes aside, I'm of the idea that it's not the nationality of horsepower or the amount of it that define the moron. I meet plenty of them that fully earn the title even with no car at all...a fast or big car may boost your confidence for sure, but if you drive it around like a and a danger for others, it's usually 'cause you are just a and a danger to others in general.

Oh yes very much the above. And more than once I disappointed hot-headed wannabe pilots by going all serious looks and revving engines before the traffic light got green, only to just start slow as usual and/or going entirely a different way.

Oh, it's all over the front page .......

Yeah, have never really done road rage and after several drving jobs, including one clocking 45,000 miles annual I think you soon learn the best thing is (if they're fast) keep out of their way and (if they're slow) it usually adds only seconds to your actual journey time, to bide your time, before passing them.

Usually a smug sense of personal self satisfaction (me being a good driver and a MUCH better person than they are!!) gives me all the gratification I need, even in the face of extreme idiocy. And there is plenty out there;

Its not the GTA, and thats one the few older Alfas that Ive always wanted and never had...3.2 v6...one the best petrol engines ever made fer the money. Mine is the turblo diesel version 147 Ducaticorse with Q2 suspension system. 170bhp standard/212bhp remapped...kept more or less original spec minus the engine modifications and the sound system which has been upgraded with dual 4 way thousand watt amps and dual 800w subwoofers. Used to keep a playstation under the seat but one me moron m8s broke the screen after not wearing his bloody seat belt one night when I was...erm, in a hurry.

Currently in storage because its now legally off the road fer a year...I blew the turbo again and cant afford to replace it and a cheapo recon wont do it because it was a very limited edition engine, so one has been trying to learn the language from irate parts dealers who dont speak much english. I can get one but wont have much change from 900 quid and I simply cant afford that fer at least the next 6 months. Its not fer sale though...it will never be fer sale ^

Have use of a m8s car but its an audi and it smells weird, no radio, bog standard wheels, wont win any beauty contests but its legal, reliable and cheap...and still pretty sharp despite its age. Thatll do fer now ^

I know Im a fast aggressive driver and I do find gaps in traffic that others dont even see and get swore at every single day. In my mind, Im not taking an unnecessary risk, so long as they dont panic brake and concentrate on what they doing instead of me. Ive been called just about every name inder the sun, so its ok really...I know what sorta road user I am...but I dont push on nervous drivers or those who just clearly cant drive and overtake them when its what I consider to be the appropriate time to overtake. They might not always agree but I dont tend to hang around long enough to find out.

True story but ye can still get through rush hour in less time by staying within the law than the little boy racers who break it and give car enthusiasts a bad name. However, ye wont make friends doing so and pedestrians soon learn to avoid puddles at the side of the road...thats illegal too now bloody spoilsports.

Pretty sure it is illegal in most sane countries, and rightly so indeed.

And yet many still do it...they even get ratty because ye undercut them so they literally see everyone else as being the problem and not themselves. When people do that, I make it my business to cut them up...its a pet hate of mine triggers me everytime...so I trigger them right back ^

My girl was fairly shocked at some the stuff I do but not overly concerned because according to her, most peelers are worse and use the law to their advantage on the roads anyway. Its like she telling me stuff I already know...weird ^
