Road to Riches too many jumps between targets?

I am going on a Road to Riches run (my first!) and the number of jumps between target systems is wildly off compared to the estimated jumps. For instance, the list said it estimated 3 jumps to get to the first stop. It took 8. Granted I have the route filtered to only jump to scoop-able star systems. It still feels wrong. I have a Hauler that can jump 29 light years but the longest jump I've had plotted by the computer is 13.1.

Should I change my filters and jump to any system to get the number of jumps lower, or is this just normal? My next stop is 14 jumps away (website says it should be 4 jumps) and that just seems long. Am I doing something wrong?

Using spansh website. OBAFGKM system filter.
Range: 29
Radius: 200
Max systems: 25
Max distance to arrival: 755LS
Minimum scan value: 750k using mapping value

How long have you been playing with those settings?
I started playing the game Feb 2nd, but didn't start my Road until last night. I played a good three hours and only scanned six of the targets, which made me wonder if I was doing something wrong. All the videos I watched about it said $20mil/hour and it just didn't add up.

Oh ok, good thing you recognized something was off.

Good thing he happened to go do road to riches and had the good sense to realize something is off and asked about it. Imagine how many people don't..

I've no idea why economical is the default setting (really, who the hell uses it) and, more importantly, why the game doesn't tell you about it.

Someone set off in a 13ly vulture to deliver a data mission to Colonia.. After a week of jumping he/she started asking questions.. Or the recent slavery incident...

No grinding does not teach you, failing does
Gave carrier assistance to a commander who was worried about loosing his scan data and was very grateful when he found out he could repair his ship, this was about 4,000ly out from the bubble and he had a similar jump range:)

I cant believe Road to Riches is still a thing.
In a game that has become so welcoming to new commanders and the possibility to make money so plentiful, I thought RtR would have gone the same way that things like Rare trading or Smuggling have gone.
i.e. still there but only something for the bucket list

Hey! Road to Riches is a good learning experience and is still handy even for experienced pilots. If I'm ever taking a long trip I use RtR to plan the route adn pick up some bonus cash and reputation.

On that point, to the OP - handing in scan data improves your rep with whoever you hand it in to, so a little judicious choosing of destination or scanning before heading to a mission giver or engineer can make life much easier.

For this commander it was appealing as I got into the game simply because I wanted to travel the galaxy and see the sights. When I heard I could make money just by looking around I figured that would be the best way to start out. It is also still mentioned in lots of YouTube beginner guides with the caveat that you have to actually surface scan the planet to make the most money with the recent rebalancing.

By the way, playing in VR is amazing. Jumping into a system with a giant star makes me feel like I'm seconds away from death each time. Truly thrilling.

you don't need RtR for that.
If you are in VR, log into EDSM and have a look at the various expeditions that have been set-up.
They are deliberately constructed to take in good sights.

I think road to riches is still fun. I use it when I go places outside the bubble. It makes me feel like I'm being efficient or something. Keep in mind that R2R only reports what other commanders have recorded. I found systems worth scanning that were not listed on R2R but in the neighborhood.

Thank you!

A question if you don't mind. It seems like I have missed the starting window of most of the the expeditions. Would I be able to join them if I play catch up, or should I just wait until the next expedition leaves? It seems like the next one starting is going to Beagle Point, which may be a little too much for my current 29ly Hauler.
