Roadmap 2019

hello to all the developers,

First of all a big congratulations to all your team of devs who gave this excellent update. Frankly, congratulations guys. I know you are preparing to upload 3.3 but do you have a date for the next roadmap. Not especially the content but just a date it would be super tight

Thank you for taking the time to read this post :)

And this time in the Roadmap, put in more detail, such as .....

Start >>>> Pedestrian Crossing (Legs !) >>>> Poor Visibility (Atmosphere) >>>> Slippery Road (Ice Planets) >>>> Low Bridge (Caves !) >>>> ......

Id guess no news for a good few months yet. Maybe David in the Christmas stream might give a little something away.... Although there was a recent newsletter....

SURVEY RESULTS

Thanks to all our Commanders who took part in our (1st) Annual Survey, we value your feedback. The main comments were the frequency of the newsletter, wanting more news and other types of upcoming content, and more information on gameplay, where to go and things to do. Watch this space, as in the new year we will be implementing some of the best and most common suggestions.

I think we can understand fDev not wanting to take attention away from the imminent Chapter 4 launch. We'll need to wait a little longer for what will be coming Beyond the Horizon, beyond even Beyond....

Here it is.....

Frontier has done a great job at polishing core features and adding some new stuff. After Beyond it's time to move on to the next big things that most people want: EVA and atmospheric landings. A roadmap for 2019 would be useful so we know when to expect the DLC.

Frontier should take notice of how basic EVA in games like X4 Foundations does wonders to make it much more immersive. Such as walk in the cockpit, hangar, station (some areas) and EVA around a ship in space.

Basic EVA in X means a rubber band round your keyboard holding the fire key down to make the repair laser do its thing without you having to watch. Not exactly enthralling gameplay after the first time.

Jam the key down using a coin - that's what I did back in the 90s with Doom 1 & 2 :)

I'd wager if the same underdeveloped/buggy content in some other games were reproduced in Elite, the forums would never hear the last of it. But seeing as they're not in Elite, their shortcomings should be ignored and FDev should implement them asap.

Yep, if you just need a stick to beat FDEV with why worry about it being a <expletive deleted> one.

David stated already that they know how to implement EVA in the game 'cause they already did in other games too.
The point is to provide meaningful contents to it. That's the big task.
I would be happy enough to walk inside the ship and to get out of it with a limited area of walking around.

My biggest wishes are for an atmospheric planets road map (see the link in my signature - Give a home to my CMDR)

Me too, and I suspect the main reason this hasn't been done yet is that they require the whole space legs thing to be the big draw for an expansion.

I also suspect that the "meaningful content" is also not the thing that holds them back as much as the amount of artwork needed for all the newly accessible areas. Then again, I suspect that's the main thing that also keeps atmospheric planets behind as well.

My guesses? Proper crew mechanics tied into "squadrons", Squadron based "enterprises" - the squadron buys ships and hires crew and issues orders to them, More SRV's and Ship Launched Vehicles* (not just fighters), access to Gas Giants upper atmosphere including ones with life (continuing from lagrange clouds in beta), atmosphered planets, leading up to earth likes complete with cities and ecosystems.

X4 ships are very disappointing i think, ED ships are on a whole other scale if you look at the pilots seat etc- even a humble Dolphin is pretty cavernous and i would love to see legs just to add to some feeling of presence even if it were the same gameplay effectively, i.e. accessing stations etc

Elite does feel weird, its like the ships are a lot more massive than you'd think. I always imagine that the mad laser from "hunny I shrunk the kids" tore through the population a few geneations ago. By that I mean I thought of an eagle as being about the size of a modern fighter jet, the damned things about the size of a 737 airliner.

The next phase of development in my so humble opinion should be proper colonization mechanics and the ability to construct in game assets. This should be done before space legs or atmospheric landings because I would like something more to do on planets them take screenshots on myself

You mean like supercruise? Considering all the posts in this forum about watching Netflix while playing ED, your dig at X4 is kinda silly :p

An F22 is 62 feet long a 737 airliner is 94 feet long. An eagle is about 98 feet long.

Fighter jets are bigger than you think. Considering an eagle is an interstellar space fighter a 50% mark-up in size from a modern fighter jet ain't much.
