Hi Marc.

Thanks for the grid competition for 2015. :)

I'll kick things off with an updated version of my Auxilliary Controls grid... all the inputs I don't need on my HOTAS!

ELITE-D AUX CONTROLS - Version 3, Landscape Orientation

As you can see, this is built so as to match Elite Dangerous' design aesthetics (take a look at the pilot's chair controls in-game ;)).

There are older versions of my grid on the Roccat store, but those aren't as polished as this Version 3. Yes, I finally got around to adding "Active Graphic" images for feedback when pressing the buttons.

Please note that there is a Portrait Orientation version of this grid, too.

Cheers!

I do like the look of yours, definitely one of the best I've seen.

I keep meaning to get around to making one myself for use on my Galaxy Note 10.1.

One thing I'd like to ask, is that I see you have "Match Rotation" as a button, is this to match the rotation of a station when docking? As far as I'm aware there is no keybinding for that, so how have you got that to work? Also I've seen other grids with "Request Docking Permission" buttons. Again there is no key binding for this as far as I'm aware, so how have they got these to work? Is it possible to set buttons to do other things like fill your hold with a selected commodity with a single button press, or have buttons setup for the three turret different modes?

Yes, it enables or disables in-station rotation matching. A handy button for it can be useful if there is a shiny canister of palladium floating in the middle of the station, and you want to scoop it with ease. ;)

It's possible to bind a control for Match Rotation. Not all buttons have default bindings in a new client, though, so they will need setting up.

Those will be macros, like "left panel" -> "two tabs to right" -> "select" -> "one option down" -> "select".

Hey Captian Kremmen,

Just so you know that your entry has to be a Plug-In grid to be a valid entry to the competition, as it says in the contest rules. Sorry if there was any confusion.

You grid looks great though, maybe add some toggle button functions to it since you already have all your assets done.

Those will be macros, like "left panel" -> "two tabs to right" -> "select" -> "one option down" -> "select".

And then you always have to remember to exit the left panel on the first tab or else the macro won't work. Which means the macro needs to switch two tabs to the right as well. Having to press multiple buttons to send a simple docking request is by far my big pet peeve in the game. It could be so easy: target station, press button.

Oh, okay. When first posted, it said something like, "Make a new grid for Power Grid". Thanks for rewording it so it's clear now.

Let's see...

There's only one button out of all of those that's workable as a toggle, and that's HEAD LOOK... because that is the only one of those controls that the ED client treats as persistent-state, and with a known starting state.

CARGO SCOOP will close if you power off the module, ie. without pressing the button. So it's not a good indicator (and there's a good indicator on the HUD ;)).

LANDING GEAR isn't in a known starting state on loading, as it depends on whether the player ship is docked or free-flying (and, again, there's a good indicator on the HUD).

SHIP LIGHTS turn off by themselves whenever you enter or exit frameshift, which would leave the grid showing the wrong status.

...and if MATCH ROTATION doesn't align with reality, it'll get you killed, lol.

So I'll give HEAD LOOK a go at toggle mode!

I might have to get you to take a look at my Roccat website profile. It doesn't list my old "v1" and "v2" ELITE-D AUX CONTROLS grids on my list of published grids... which means I can't delete them. And they are now well and truly out of date, and ready for the knackers yard. Only my "v3" grids appear when accessed from my login profile...

Unfortunately, I'm admitting defeat on this one.

It's a rather mind-bendingly awkward process, trying to manually build an export fileset for a grid containing a plugin. For my ED Aux Controls grid, it's just not worth the massive increase in complexity - not for a simple toggle light on one button.

While I've got it working on my local grid by hacking the "toggle" example in place, that's as far as I'm ever going to get, I reckon. I've spent countless hours trying to work out why my manually built .rpgp file is rejected by the Power Grid app with a simple "Cannot import file". Without diagnostic info from the import process, I have no clue what's actually wrong. Perhaps it's all the renamed files, or cross-links, or plug-in edits, or a resource name. Whatever it is, the return-for-effort ratio has spiralled into the ground and exploded. :D

Marc, many thanks for posting up this competition for creative ED grid creators. It got me off my lazy backside and prompted me to make an updated version of my grid. It's way prettier than it was before, with its reacting button graphics, and I finally got around to choosing uses for the blanks that were there in the older versions! But it's not a plug-in style grid, so someone else will be carrying the torch on this one.

If and when the Windows-based Grid editor offers clean toggle button support, I'll be delighted to make that small tweak to the one button that can benefit... and export/upload it for public use.

Best of luck moving the Power Grid product forward!

Hey guys,

We are still waiting on Plug in Grids for the Power-Grid contest for the Elite Dangerous side of the competition. So we are extending the deadline till the 23rd of June to get your grids in. I know some of you have been getting a little stuck, I've been doing my best to answer any queries but your best is to either post in the power-grid forums or PM Addihash.

As you can see when you browse the forums Addihash has been offering a whole bunch of support for grid creators. You can find the Power-Grid forums here: http://power-grid-forum.roccat.org/

Get stuck in and you could be the proud owner of a 5.1 gaming headset and a multicolor gaming keyboard! :D

Hey Captain, that is a real shame. I think Addihash in the power-grid forums could help you with this.

He suggested that you look here: %LOCALAPPDATA%/Temp/ROCCAT/Power-Grid/log.txt That's where you'll find the log file, you can see whats wrong there.
PM Addihash in the Power-Grid forums (Should be back on Tuesday) and he can help you out. You can send the log file details after your failed import and he can help you out.

Sorry this has been such a huge mission. I'm glad it had the added benefit of you making improvements to your old design. Getting the edited toggle button to work in the first place is the hardest part, you are on the home stretch!!!
