Rock Hermits, we need them

And now for the question nobody dared ask

:

Will there be Rock Hermits in Elite Dangerous.
I think there should be. I definitely would like to encounter them once in a while. Some might be quest givers, have stories to tell with hints at treasure, and some might be unfriendly or downright aggressive.

Rock Hermits are members of a space faring race which have decided to live a life of isolation inside a hollowed out asteroid. They may be retired traders or military personal or simply average citizens who wish to live a reclusive life.

The Rock Hermits life is not entirely without danger. They are at risk of being mistakenly targeted by asteroid miners, although a hollowed out asteroid provides few minerals and any sensible Rock Hermit will attach a beacon to notify of their presence.

Rock Hermits will have a ship, often a Krait as a means of escape and resupply.

On the condition we could also find deserted Hermit settlements with either lore, loot or maybe a quest trigger.

If you read the elite books that are out, there is a mention of a group of people living in a "scooped out " asteroid where they do repairs etc for certain types of person. I wont spoil it for you but I think that I it is mentioned in the books then there is a big chance that they will exist in game.
Tip : Read the books as they give pointers as to what may be out there and in a few cases where to look (I know where I am heading to see if it is there )

Perhaps we could even take over such a Rock Hermit cave for our own use.

It is difficult to get a hold of these books where I live. The largest online book retailer in the Netherlands does not have them. Not in e or paper form.
And I also saw that the publisher chose to 'infect' the e-books with DRM which is a big NO for me. I bought approx 40 ebooks last year and this year combined. None of them is infected. I wanted to buy the paper versions instead, but they are not available it seems.

I remember in the original Elite (Amstrad CPC 464 version) I'd sometimes accidentally fire on a rock hermit thinking it was just a regular asteroid. I never did find any difference in appearance between the two types of rocks. Was there any?

You should send Dan (the publisher (Fantastic Books)) an email and see what he can do. The print version (or is it the audiobooks) are due to be released next month. Anyway, hopefully you will be able to get a copy before the game is released in full.

Asteroid space stations are certainly coming. I know it doesn't necessarily mean the same thing but it isn't a big stretch to move from this to rock hermits.
