Rockband VR might surprise you!

I'm not a gamer yet since the launch of VR and ED I have spent ridiculous amounts of money on systems that 1980s me would have considered science fiction! I love VR and I love Eilte dangerous but even I have to admit that it is a somewhat expensive hobby just to play one game!

Well no more because I have finally found another game worthy of my attention - Rockband VR!

Seriously? Yes seriously! As a veteran guitarist of 20+ years I can hand on heart say that this game has been stealing some serious flying time away from ED. No other game since we started with the DK1 and Alpha has come even close to the experience of flying through the stars but Rockband VR allows me to live out my other childhood fantasy... being a bonafide rock star!

It is stupidly fun to play and the controls allow much more control over riffing than I'd thought possible without actually using a real guitar (which would be awesome by the way!)

Anyway just thought I'd share because although this a space sim forum I thought there might be a few other closet wanna be rockstars blazing their own trail!

Safe flying commanders!

FYI my band Autoblaster are currently doing a tour through the Alliance systems and will be playing the "Tree Grub Tavern" next Saturday on Lave. Tickets are a steal and entry comes with a free Pan Galactic Gargle-blaster on the house! Tell your friends!

That's awesome!

I wish Rocksmith could come up with a real instrument / VR combination thing - it could be very fun!

I can't wait to start a virtual band and call it the 1023 Megs.

We'll never make a gig :D

I remember playing a fair amount of guitar hero.

Catching a glimpse of my self in some reflective surface and think "dear lord what a nerd".

Then I nail 'eye of the tiger' and felt like the absolute lord of the universe.

Yeah I may be standing in my living room with my socks around my ankles.
But it's as much fun you can have with your clothes on, or not blitzed out of your mind on opiates.

Rocksmith VR with a real guitar would be awesome. But on second thoughts I think it would be hard to play without being able to look at my fretting hand at all.
But on guitar I'm no Elite, more likely Mostly Harmless.

Practice :D

I'm just a four-string floorboard shaker though ;)

My one criticism is that the story mode ended too soon! I'd happily pay for an expansion pack - European tour etc.
Looking forward to seeing the dlc they release but for now it's back to Elite...

I already have two guitars and drums for Rockband and two guitars for Guitar Hero and none of them will work with VR Rockband (still can't believe I bought a Wii). So all these years later I gotta drop MORE coin on plastic guitars and only play solo this time. Blargh.

I'm presently one of the best guitarists in the world although I must admit I don't carry any modesty about it. I would really love to play such a game as Rockband as I can already perform any solo ever played in real life. I just can not come to terms with acting it out on a fake guitar game controller. With the technology already there with both Midi Pickups and even Pitch to Midi conversion at lightening speed to remove any noticeable latency I am seriously insulted that other methods of controllers are not being implemented e.g. a real guitar with either one those methods mentioned. This to me is exactly like bringing out Racing Games in VR which don't even use a Steering Wheel! OMG - they even did that in Oculus Home with the Project Cars 1 edition!

Come on games designers - do not omit what potential your games could bring forward. It really is an insult to any guitarist to mimick what they can do.

I'd seriously give Rocksmith and the 2014 Remastered version a good look.

You'll need their proprietary USB input cable, and latency can be a real pain without tweakage, but you are really playing the real notes of the real song on your real instrument.

I'm a real-life guitarist too, but I think VR rockband is not intended for real musicians, it seems intended for fantasy air-guitar type people. The market for people using VR AND are real-life musicians(who do not actually play live in front of real audience) is quite small. Don't think they would generate enough revenue to support their development time.
However, it would still be cool if they one day would add some interface option to a real guitar. Maybe one day when VR gets even more mainstream who knows ...

During the whole guitar hero craze back around the naughties I came up with the theory which was that peoples skill at guitar hero was inverse to their ability to play a real guitar.

But if you can play a real guitar, why aren't you doing that instead ?

I looked at Rocksmith and although it has lots of features and content, you still need to buy songs you want added which is only affordable once they come around on the Steam Sale. I do not want Steam. I hate these kind of traps. I also hated the method of their TAB which is looking through the back of the neck instead of looking at the fretboard. This is a total mirror of TAB and for this reason I stay clear. I will not promote the idea of learning things in a non-traditional method as this would be counter intuitive to all other sources of learning.

It therefore can stay in the box until they design this correctly and seriously, it would've been better not with any arcade action at all and been for LEARNING TO PLAY SONGS ON THE GUITAR - what the hell is wrong with them???
