Interesting that such a weapon style does not exist in Elite, sure we have Dumbfire missile racks, but they just don't cut it. just to throw another idea out there, I suggest the addition of Rocket Pods/racks both standard and AX alike.
Here is how it will work;
- Rocket pods fire a significantly smaller projectile with far less damage than standard missiles (like 5-7 damage per rocket)
-Ultra cheap to restock
-Travel much faster than usual Missiles (800m/s)
- a size 3 rack can hold 72 rockets per clip, 36 for size 2 and 18 for size 1.
-The Rack fires as fast as the trigger can be pulled. giving the weapon lethal DPS over it's counterpart.
-Ammo per pod is limited to Clip size + 6 reloads ( size 3 for example would have 72/432 rounds)
-This weapon will be available through tech broker (so it can't be engineered... yet)
- AX versions are added also
The idea behind this weapon is much the same as it's use back in early wars, to spray a wall of death down on a target (be that a tank or other) and hope to hit it as well as everything behind it if they are lined up. This weapon is ideal for hitting those stubborn small ships where standard dumbfires don't have the shot speed or rate of fire to be as effective in this kind of battle.
5-7 Dam per shot brings these rockets slightly behind Pack hound missiles. which can be very dangerous on individual targets. this weapon takes a little more skill to apply the damage being fixed. however successful passes on enemies would be catastrophic.
As for Thargoid Combat (my original inspiration for the idea) this weapon would be enormously helpful, as for interceptors combat is less damage based and more DPS. these racks could reliably exert hearts on even a Medusa with ease. given a good run that is.
So what are your thoughts on this? Are rocket Pods a thing of the future, or left buried in an ancient past?
