General / Off-Topic Rogue One - it's almost tomorrow!!!

Star Wars - A New Hope meets Dirty Dozen.

I love how well the look and feel of the movie fit with the memories of Episode IV. It also seemed to fit the old lore.

And nothing stupid at all, no Ewoks, no JarJar Binks, no Wookies making "Tarzan" noises swinging about, no dodgy posh English accents - yes McGregor you! OK we know they made you do that ;)

All in all faultless...

Saw it last night at 00:05.

Star wars without the saga level drama. Awesome. I was on the edge of my seat almost all the way through the film... and left with a big smile on my face. Awesome.

That was an excellent film. As a standalone, "never seen Star Wars before film" it is particularly good. It's a war film in space.

I normally come away from a film, particularly SciFi, with a bucket load of moments that don't add up Force Awakens (although I love it) was full of terrible stuff and remember Prometheus? Utter garbage!!

Rogue One however is all good - gritty, well scripted, well casted and with a good solid plot. The special effects were a mixture of CGI and real models (I think) but even if they weren't they've obviously moved on a great deal since the disasters of the prequels.

Also some great character appearances for die-hard Star Wars fans!

I won't give any spoilers but it is a must see. It's just a bloody good film :D

It seems that this movie is going to make the unanimity around him

That is you? Is that true?
Wow! I'm impressed.
Did you create that yourself?

The Clone armour is a kit imported from the US, it is in very basic form and requires cutting out, building finishing and painting. I did all that myself. And made the Guns myself. I make Star Wars weapons, Fall Out Weapons, any weapons really. So if anyone wants one...

Isn't that Bill's daughter in the picture?

Btw, the movie has one of the best robots ever. Possibly the best.

Bill's daughter is not in that picture, she generally manifests herself as a Mandalorian Bounty Hunter, think Boba Fett, Bo Katan or Sabine.

She makes the armour.

The Robot is epic, probably the best screen Robot/Droid yet. Maybe an Oscar for Tudyk???

Apparently Disney ordered major reshoot and the ending sums up what they thought of the cast...

Is this where they fly a xwing down 'uncanny valley'

This seriously is one of my new all time favourite. It's intense- great cast- great acting- great battles.
And those last 3 minutes... Oh gods, thos last three minute AND that last word.

Just wanted to step up and say I thought it was ... ok, but the rest of the family hated it. I concur with the comparisons to war films of old (Guns of Navarone, Diry Dozen, Bridge Too Far, that kind of thing). On the plus side I really liked its gritty look and feel and the way it ties in with the other films (including all the cameo's from other Star Wars characters), especially the last 10mins. On the down side, for a film like this (and again I refer back to those classic war films for how to do this properly), I thought the characters were REALLY under-developed. I don't feel like I know any of those main players at all with the possible exception of Diego Luna.

7/10 - probably won't watch it many times unlike Force Awakens which I find hugely entertaining and can watch over and over.

Other opinions are available.

They kinda spent the first half of the movie doing a -imo- highly redundant (as a Star Wars character as well as repeating the same development steps over and over within the movie) 'character development' for the protagonist and just threw the rest of the cast in there. Giving any of them more room to develop would have made the movie as such a lot more well rounded.
Like that, for me it felt - first third: largely boring (and too "human" centric for a Star Wars movie), mid part: a bit confusing, end: finally great.

Anyone notice some of the footage (fighter pilots) in the big battle at the end, looks like it was unused stuff from Episode IV?

No - I think it was samples from the actual film. A lot of the audio in that sequence was the same.

But overall, I enjoyed this film. Hardly a classic - but a good addition to the franchise.
