I just started playing ED using my second PSN account / CMDR, and I'm using this as an opportunity to really distinguish my two characters into very different roles. This allows me to try all ED has to offer without being stuck with one "I do everything amazing" character, which feels fake to me.
Old Duck is modeled somewhat after the Doctor (hence the avatar), with some obvious exceptions. Old Duck will be the wandering explorer character with an affinity to Sol System; the Doctor does love Earth! I definitely want to visit Earth in the game, so this is the character that will do that. I'm not sure if I can do this and remain independent, anyone know? Old Duck will likely focus on passenger missions, helping people, etc. Eventually Old Duck will head out to parts unexplored, and Old Duck will likely take interest in any aliens making a move on Earth.
Jenny, my second PSN account character, will be more of the fighter / PowerPlay character. She's interested in joining House Duval in the Empire. She'll do what's needed to achieve this goal.
I'm using these two characters to try different gameplay, fly different ships (Jenny has a tricked-out Eagle, which Old Duck skipped over), explore different parts of the bubble, and align with different powers. This feels more natural than one character that owns every ship, is a master at all vocations, and is highly ranked in two opposing superpowers. It also slows down my progression (I can't play both characters at once), which means more overall enjoyment out of the game, I believe.
Anyone else doing something similar?
