Roleplay In ED

Hi,

I'm wondering what kind role will you reprise in ED. For example will you be a renegade/boat-rocker or an evil ba*****. Being a multiplayer game I will look to join factions like the gangs in the 80 Westerns pirates/traders/explorers/gun-slingers. You know the Sergio Leonne movies with Gian Maria Volonte. Ramon the Space-Cowboy. I hope we get all sorts of characters coming through especially out in the frontier where it should lucrative but risky like the Wild West. Chance to make a fortune and own huge plantation or just end up in an unmarked grave.

Thanks
Haider

Would love to roleplay as a swuave and elegant, yet determined pirate, but its seems more likely that noone will get to see me roleplaying since pirates are going to have a hard time in ED, once everyone joins private groups :(

Im thinking maybe a LARGE furry feline, with a Rufus (chris rock) from Dogma issue with his species being airbruished out of history and people pretending they dont exist...

I think role-playing pirates will be fine in Elite. The ones who end up on ignore lists will be the trash-talking types that add nothing to an encounter other than grief for the victim. I think this is one of the reasons why the new AAA games coming out like Elite, SC, and Shroud of the Avatar have all effectively decided to go for the same multiplayer set up - putting in mechanics to weed out or curb the viability of antisocial behavior. I think there's been some sharing of ideas and collaboration on the way future MP is handled.

So your suave and elegant character will be fine. I hope ED gives rise to famous and infamous characters like that! - people you actually hope you meet in your travels because they enrich the gameplay.

HaiderGill, I plan to role play someone whose lost in the void, but with billions of destinations to chose from

I will be there in open all group just for you :p :)

Seriously, I don't think that will be a problem. Part of the trader game play in FE2 was battling NPC pirates. I wonder how it is different from what ED will open in 'open all'. Even more - if pirates really do "pirate stuff", just asking "nicely" for goods, I am all for it :)

i will try my hand at role-playing an anti-social brat with guns bigger then his tiny brain.

let's see how that gets me around in our galaxy of endless possibilities

I expect pirates to be like Ramon from a Fist Full of Dollars. In character 'uncouthness' is fine. I will be flying a Cobra Mk. 3 so will look to hook-up with Eagles and other Cobras whether I'm a goodie or baddie or a bit in the middle. I certainly don't expect to be hailed by a pirate saying 'would you mind awfully handing over your cargo for an escort through this troubled space? While he has a missile lock on me'. Equally well if you're in pirate gang don't be surprised if you get fragged if you run for cover if the s hits the fan...I even expect gangs to co-operate with each other like the Mafia has it's turfs but they occasionally have a war too. Hell a little illicit trading and tie-ups with pirates and traders .At the frontier it should be a wild, colourful, changing place, certainly not grey and dull; that should really be more for the old world...I think we need to start thinking about ganging up...

I will be roleplaying a pilot in the 34th century who is, in turn, roleplaying a 21st century text-talking griefer. My performance will be Oscar-worthy.

Aim for the heart Ramon.

I was thinking about the Stranger character (Clint) who plays the Baxter's off against the Rojo's and frees Marisol.

:D
