Roll or yaw on the pedals?

I just upgraded to Alpha (from Beta premium) after I saw multiple controller bug was fixed. Was pleasantly surprised to see a profile in options for the Warthog and my Saitek combat pedals were even auto-recognized too. Wowza.

Only other space sim I've played with my current rig is Diaspora and I had gotten used to having yaw on the stick rather than roll. I believe, from memory, that Freespace 2 was like that.

I was wondering what you guys did and why you prefer it that way?

Anyone out there did a visual Warthog map by any chance?

I had it switched around for Allegiance as well, but in Elite roll is more important than yaw. Keep it like an airplane, I say.

I'm with Adept here, YAW has been deliberately nerfed by FD to give what they feel is a better game play experience. (I happen to agree with them, but not everyone does).

I use the stick for pitch and roll and the rudder for yaw, but at the end of the day it's up to you.

Stick for pitch and yaw, rudder for roll on all space sims.

Reverse for real-world flight sims though. Dunno why, just feels natural to me

Thanks for the pointers, I'll try to get used to it.

I did notice yaw wasn't as responsive, I imagine it was done on purpose.

you mean *pedals for roll, I think

It works when yaw hasn't been deliberately nerfed as it has for Elite. I suspect that won't work too well here.

I have my CH Pedals set to yaw, tried other methods, but I feel comfortable with yaw on pedals and actually find it useful :).

YMMV.

Familiar true. But give it a go. Makes more sense when closing the gap in a roll. And frees up the joystick for pitching...... Mine is stiff can't do nw ne se sw.

If ED is using Newtonian physics and thrusters are positioned where we think they should be, then it makes sense that yaw thrust isn't as powerful as the aileron thrust, no? This is why I think manoeuvrability may be compromised if you use the stick for yaw (although I admit, playing elite II with a mouse feels better with yaw on x axis!)
