Rolled over cable one to many times in VR

So last Friday, playing Elite.. office chair rolled over rift cable one to many times...

Spend 1 day playing in 4K.. and had to order new cable.. order on Sunday or Monday (public holidays) new cable arrived in post today.. so while it's annoying to have to buy a cable, at least the service was fast!

Maybe time to invest in a flight chair.. elite is costing me a small fortune.. hehe

My VR space has a drop ceiling, so I zip-tied some carry-beaners to the ceiling, and use those to keep the cable off the ground.

For now I'm tieing the cable to DVD racks.. but good cool.. new cable works perfectly, so back up on VR..

Have to say, was expecting to wait 5-14 working days.. so 1 working day turn around has impressed me!

Just don't want to shell out £50 on a regular basis!

Cut a PVC pipe into short sections and join them with shrink wrap (if rich) or duct tape (if not), leaving a small gap between each for some flexibility. Voila, a cable snake.

Put the cable down the pipe and when your chair hits it the wheels will push it away rather then roll over it.

I've been worried about this happening. I've rolled over the cable a couple of times, but what I do now is use a magnet to hold the slack up off the floor, since I have a metal filing cabinet next to the desk. I only roll over it if this comes loose without noticing.

I only did that once and to prevent it from happening again, i removed the wheels from the office chair. Its a cockpit experience after all.
After getting roomscale with Oculus Touch, i strapped the cable under the ceiling, so the cable comes down from above.
Best solution in my opinion, because it almost never gets into your way.

I use these to clip the cable to the side of my desk:

You could take the wheels off the chair. This way you can still pivot and if you use rudder pedals as I do, you won't find yourself drifting away from them.

Yes, rudder pedals were the second reason for me to take the wheels off. Elite is great with rudder pedals and i hope for some animations in the future.

Yep. Not only would moving legs and pedals be nice, I would like to see hotas movement (the throttle) accurate to actual movement and I wish they would get rid of the annoying hand flexing. It breaks the immersion.

Gosh, so much this. Or at least have an option to turn it off in the settings. It's probably fine for everyone on 2.5D, but with VR, it breaks the immersion. I have my HOTAS positioned so that my hands are pretty close to actually being where they appear in-game, and my brain will almost accept the virtual hands as being my real hands. Until they flex. Then it's gone.
