RCT 3 PC Roller Coaster Tycoon will Live On...!

 Hey Everyone,

Just a quick hello to all of the old Atari RCT3 forums Peeps, and to give Mr David Braben a tip of my hat and say,....

' David the RCT Community is still here, passionate and loyal to the franchise. We miss our game and community a heck of a lot - so learn from past mistakes and also the successful things that went on with RCT3...........AND GIVE US RCT4!!!... '

We haven't gone away David, we're all still here just awaiting the big announcement of the next step in our favourite game series...

Peace and much love to everyone, I'll be lurking and popping in from time to time to see what's going on - see you in the RCT4 future! :D

Bring back the Hedge Maze from RCT1! that was my favorite attraction!

Take your time on RCT4 though, I just picked up Platinum and I need some time to get saturated with Soaked and Wild before I move on to a sequel!

something for 4 that would be nice would be a ride designer, sort of like a rollercoaster designer but for flat rides, and increase the number of themed rides and attractions (no SciFi thrill rides makes me sad...)

just my two cents if it matters.

Well they have ThrillVille for the PSP2 an outdated and fading platform as the next year rolls on. But imagine all the millions of PC's and Mac out there, boy oh boy what a market... Oh I guess perhaps they'll wisen up. But if they do make ThrillVille for the PC platforms, they will need to not only give the community everything RCT3 did, but a great additional many things the community asked for, otherwise the community will take a big hike on em

agreed. I am very disapointed and confused as to why they designed such a game (thrillville) for platforms only. the computer gamming corner is a rather large corner that they are excluding. and like sebar said, when a platform is outdated it is obsolete. rarely can you take a game for a GenX console and use it on a GenY console. (PS1 and PS2 had some compatibility but it was not perfect)

with software for computers however, users are able to upgrade their comps piece by piece and for the most part (assuming Bill Gates does not screw up the OS to badly) you can always play old games on new PCs leaving the software with a much longer life span and thus increasing revenue over time.

perfect example: Diablo and StarCraft. these games are going on 10 years old now and they are still selling new and used copies in local game stores. How many new SNES or PS1 games do you see on store shelves anymore? I rest my case...

there are a lot of people out there like myself who really dont play games on the consoles and only concentrate on what I can get for the PC. and as far as I am concerned strategy sim games should never be made for a system that does not use a mouse and keyboard. maybe thats just me though.

as for what to include they really need to make sure that there is enough scenery to make a decent and DIVERSE theme park or even just a decent generic amusement park. now of course they can't think of everything but something other sim games have done is to include a USER FRIENDLY tool for the players to make their own content and Custom Scenery. that way the developers don't need to go crazy with design and additions, let the player do the work for you! people play these games to create and design, so why not give them the tools to do just that.

with the ability to create our own scenery and buildings (with themes) we wont get stuck with a "dinosaur theme set with just two ferns and rock as vegetation" (thats my little complaint about the dino theme in the Wild expansion).

some other obvious things which I was dissapointed with in RCT3:
1. there is only one color of chess square...how can I make a chess board with only one color? (holy carp and halibut! I am dense, yep you can change the color of chess squares with the palate option, just call me Mr. Oblivious!)
2. there was a decent roman theme going for generic buildings but no roman ruins and a few more pieces couldnt hurt for diversitiy.
3. too few vegetation pieces in the newer themes (atlantis, paradise island have no vegetation, safari and dino only have about 2 or 3 each).
4. no decent support objects to create support structures for pieces not on ground level (there is the roman column and one or two building pieces from the expansions).
5. not nearly enough flowers! more colors please! the expansions added roses and tulips which was a start. (upon further investigation I am an idiot, one can change the color of the flowers by clicking them and changing the color palate. I will have to try this with the chess square now...)

so you see, by giving the player the ability to EASILY edit and create their own scenery (and apply their own custom themes to the different objects) you can essentially create an infinite amount of scenery with very little work. of course such an editor would almost certainly require access to a PC (file editing etc) hint, hint.

my only hope for rct4 is that for us that have created scenarios(parks) and
rollercoasters or any kind of tracked ride that you can easily convert this...and not have to rebuild in the new game....so i guess i would want a scenario converter along with a track converter(like the one in rct3 now for coasters from the other rct games):D and yes a flatride maker and custom scenery maker....heck just what i listed would be a great add-on to what we have now in rct3:)

Probably the safe bet is that rct4 will never exist. In fact I believe that rct3 will still sell for several years to come, but that it is essentially a dead platform.

The future will lie in several areas. Since we are already here, let us hit the first one that could or could not happen. Frontier and especially LucasArts decides to stop playing chicken with Atari, who sells ThrillVille in Europe or distributes it, I stand corrected , and decides that they love the PC market and realize this is where the future lies.

Second if a ThrillVille does come out for the PC platform , it should proove quite a boon, provided they get it right and "LISTEN" to their customers.

Third is No Limits and Virtual Rides. This could be a future possibility but isn't very hopefull as of yet.

Fourth is Ken Allen (you remember good ol' Ken, right) and his Coaster Madness. Supposed to have been free, but so far no sign these days of Ken or CM.

Fifth is other, erhmmm, community projects. The future is ours you know! Well at least if nobody else wants to make "Game of the Year" products for the millions of PC users out there and give their customers what they really want.
