Atari Announce Three New RollerCoaster Tycoon Games

At E3 Atari has announced not one, but three new RollerCoaster Tycoon games, all of which you probably didn’t ask for.

Atari have had a bit of a mixed reception with recent RollerCoaster Tycoon games. While they still own the rights to the game, the game’s original developers, Chris Sawyer and Frontier Developments, have moved onto bigger and better things, while Atari continue to flog the same dead horse.

At E3 this week, the company continued flogging and have announced three new RollerCoaster Tycoon titles: RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures, RollerCoaster Tycoon Joyride and another RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch.

RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures is the game’s first outing on the Nintendo Switch and acts as an all-new entry into the series. It’s been designed from the ground-up to make the most of the Switch, which I assume means JoyCon integration.

As for Joyride, this is a PS4/PSVR game which lets players experience what it’s like to be a customer in a RollerCoaster Tycoon park. Though if it’s anything like RollerCoaster Tycoon World, it’ll be very disappointing.

Finally, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch for iOS and Android is a revamped version of the app which landed on mobile in 2016. Major content updates and new features are planned and will be added over the coming weeks. Lovely.

Three more RCT Games, none of them is really new. Or worth your time for that matter.

RCT Adventures is just a rename of that infamous RCT Switch campaign that has been ridiculed by every (social) media outlet possible.
RCT Joyride was released for a short while, it turned out to be an abysmal cashgrab that was clearly unfinished and barely working. It was quickly pulled before the big reviews got wind of it.
RCT Touch is already out for a while, it's yet another mobile free-to-wait cow-clicker "game". Maybe they revamped it a bit to make it less obvious that RCT Adventures is just a bare port of this.

All products are developed by the same developer, of course. Nothing to see here, really.

Yeah but Atari already paid Sawyer for the extension of the RCT license, so as long as they can put out crappy inexpensive versions based on the game on the cheap they don't have to sell to very many unsuspecting individuals to come out ahead, even if the new games end up being roundly panned. The RCT name still has some value, damaged as it may be, even if just based on nostalgia from those who know little of it's recent failures.

At this point I truly think they are just trying to squeeze every single last drop of blood out of the franchise, just as the imposters are trying to squeeze every last drop of blood from the Atari name. Once they do I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't discard either or both the RCT franchise or the Atari name and reinvent themselves as something else yet again.

I mean if I would be a gamer and I would work for a company like Atari I would be ashamed myself. I mean would I work for them just for the money? It can’t be so hard to find another company to work for.......but with that reference.....Ui..... maybe hard to find XD

[shocked]

I thought you always wanted an Switch port?

But yeah, Atari seems to follow up disaster upon disaster.

How come they aren't bankrupt yet (again)?

I was expecting RCT Classic, RCT3 Mobile, or even an original title not developed by Nvizzio to come to the Switch, but the announcement wasn't what I expected.

The bizarre part to me is that, if they are making games on the cheap to cash in on the nostalgia and name, they had a great game in RCT3. I like Planet Coaster, don't get me wrong, but all I ever really wanted was the more fluid track design. If they added that and made it compatible with all the existing CS, since it's all already out there, people might buy it again.

Yes, I already thought it wasn't [up]

To me, it was exactly as expected.

I think the current Atari was Infogrames before which changed its name to Atari by buying the rights to use the name. The original Atari went bankrupt in the 90’s after the Lynx and Jaguar which flopped. Infogrames published RCT2 I believe, and the first RCT was published by Micro Prose. We’ll just have to see if these new console RCT’s suck. Probably will. Probably RCT Classic, RCT2, and Parkitect are more fun than these new RCT games.

Since this is based on RCT Touch content I wonder if this will be getting the water park content to. RCT touch will have pools and different kinds of attractions to build water parks in your theme parks.
