Newcomer / Intro Rookie - Asteroid belts?

Hello

I just took on a mission to locate and recover a black box. The only information given, was the system I might find it in.

Well, I couldn't find it. I wasn't sure if it would be just floating about in space, or if another ship might have it, but I digress... the only place in the system I couldn't visit, was an asteroid belt. From the mission description, I gather that I was meant to be collecting this black box because some illegal shennanigans had been going on, and I figure a nice asteroid belt might be the best place to go and do that sort of thing.

So... how do I actually get to an asteroid belt?

It's floating around in space. You'll find them in supercruise at a USS (Unidentified Signal Source) - drop out and after a few you should see the black boxes (if you're in the targeted system that is).

Asteroid belts are around, but they're sparse and usually close to the system's main star (asteroids in a real asteroid belt are kilometers away from each other and the same is true with ED). If you want to see a densely packed planetary ring, that's a different story.

Thanks - no I didn't particularly want to "see" it - I'm through the sightseeing phase! I just needed to check it out to see if I could find what I was looking for as there's 12,000Cr riding on it. :)
