Newcomer / Intro Rookie in need of direction

Ive got 83 hours on Elite and ive only just made a million credits. I enjoy killing pirates/criminals the most, however I have not trying mining yet. Where can I find consistently higher bounty rewards for rats/criminals? Im so sick of searching an hour for 5 sidewinder/eagles that yield 3k bounties. BTW, I have a viper with about 600k worth of upgrades.

Res is the best. If you just get sideys, exit and reenter till the condas appear. Instance may well be locked if other players are there

a Res is a resource extraction site? Are these better than pirate missions? Because these pirate missions take so long, and half the time I warp out it will a useless instance.

Dommarraa is right. You can also hunt in the Nav Points at the star of the system you are in, but ringed planets with RES sites are much better. Most of the time you have more targets and lots of help from the system police; that will definitely help when going up against larger ships like the anacondas. If the action dies down or you can't find any wanted ships when you enter the RES, just jump into SC, go back to the RES, and jump in again. If you have several available at the same ringed planet, try jumping between them.

Yes, they are much better. You tool around in an asteroid field waiting for pirates to show up. They always do, and they keep on coming.

If it takes more than 2 hours to make your second million, you are doing it wrong

I have just spent an hour in a nav beacon and made around 350K in about an hour in a sidewinder, in a viper I would expect to make much more.

If you're lucky enough to get a higher class ships like Federal Dropships, Imperial Clippers, and even Anacondas to show up (I had quite a few of each in an RES once), you can end up with a million credits easily. Just let the system security keep beating on them first while you scan them, especially if you need to KWS, then jump in when you sense the time is right.

I'm rather new myself. Probably don't even have seven days worth of game time logged yet. I've found the best thing is hopping over to a RES site of a metal rich planetary ring (easier for me to keep my bearings that way). I didn't, and still don't, go to a place without a small police force. I let them light up the Wanted folks while Kill Warrant scanning ships that show Wanted, and then help the coppers mop up. If you're still in a sidewinder, you may or may not want to get into a RES instance with sidewinders/eagles, etc as Python and Anaconda can make short work of you in a weaker ship if they focus you for a few moments. Cobra/Viper/Asps spawns are also pretty easy to help the cops out with.

Just be careful to watch clean ships that cross in front of you; you can become wanted very quickly that way.

The thing to do is -

Take the pirate mission BUT do it in a RES*

*You can actually ignore the system that it tells you go to in the mission, the important thing is killing the pirates, of which there are more than enough in any RES

Not sure that is true (any more?)
Fetch missions, sure, but not kill missions

You may be right, I haven't actually taken a kill x mission for a while, as I keep being offered traders, authority and prisoners (which seems to be a new one, I have no idea how you would fulfil it?).

I read somewhere that you had to take a cargo scanner and look for a trader carrying slaves. May well have been suposition.

I have only been playing a couple months but just settled on the best way to make money, as others have already mentioned. Find a RES with no other human players (or play in solo) so you get all the bounties to yourself. After arriving and confirming no human players, start hunting. If you do not see a large wanted ship within a couple minutes, jump out and then back in and check again. Usually within the 3rd try you will have a non-stop parade of large ships (clippers, dropships, pythons, anacondas), with each one generating roughly between 40K-300K each (at least when scanned first with KWS). Should easily make 2-3mil an hour with a Vulture, more or less using other ships. And that's not counting bounties that you need to travel farther to cash in.
