A thread to allow people to recount their observations of Commanders who demonstrate that all these years later, the Darwin awards still have a role to play.

Post you light hearted recounts of Commander stupidity / dangerous flying or downright stupid behaviour that you have seen by the PS4 commanders.


Example: Whilst trying to dock at LP98-132, Freeport yesterday, I had to avoid a fellow commander who appeared to have got confused between boost, pitch, roll and the purpose of the spaceport entry slot.
He was wedged 90 degree to the port entry and boosting his heart out, without going anywhere.

I waited 5 minutes for him to clear but had to squeeze through the remaining slot gap before my docking countdown expired so didn't see how it ended up

I almost killed myself last night, I entered the docking port and as I'm approaching my pad, instead of hitting circle+dpad for undercarriage, I hit circle and... BOOST!!!!
Arrrrrghhhhhhh noooooooooooo!! LOL I just managed to slow down and turn away from the far wall, missed it by about 20 foot. phew, so so close.

If i'd have been docking at a far pad rather than one close to the entrance, I would have been dead.

I was bouncing around the station floors like a rubber ball the first night. Now that I've sussed the lateral thrusters toggle (L3) that won't happen again! ;)

Accidentally flew into a sun and melted, hit a T9 head on in a mailbox in an Adder, pinballed around a few mailboxes, crashed into the back of a port, crashed into the front of a port, side swiped a police ship in a res site causing them to get angry at me.

To name just a few of my moments so far.

Not seen much beside a Cmdr in a sidey doing some interesting aerobatics when trying to enter a station, and idiots hogging all the landing pads at another station (had to switch to solo). Now if you asked what stupid silly things I've done... (not blown up yet though [big grin])

Regarding other CMDRs I saw one repeatedly bouncing off the side of Azeban City station seemingly quite happy (I have a feeling he was just following the target on the HUD and was confused that there was a slot the other side of the station).

As for myself... while using the external camera to try and make some nice screenshots, I forget that the flight controls can still work if you haven't disconnected the camera and boosted straight into an upright of the Eranin 4 Survey station. Only 22cr worth of damage though so not all bad.

So far I've forgotten to throttle back after a jump and boosted into the sun, tried to land on a pad facing the wrong direction, flipped my SRV onto its roof under my ship, and boosted straight down into a pad in a station when trying to lower the landing gear.
Just getting it all out of the way before leaving the bubble. :)

Several instances of warping in & getting toasted by the sun.

Trying to pass too close to a planet en route to my next jump & getting bogged down / mass locked.

Having severe difficulty finding exterior landing pads at some stations. A lot of time spent circling the station & bouncing off masts / struts etc.

Only just found out what the alternative landing controls do.

Oh, & ran out of fuel more times than I should.

I tried to be cocky while the wife was watching and fly through the mail slot at nearly full speed in my Adder, and misjudged it completely, and got wedged in the mail slot for while. Managed to get out before the timer ran out and got a 400cr fine for being a tool.

I wouldn't mind but as I was doing it, I was telling her that I was an experienced pilot as I'd played on Xbox, so I would be ok with a speed docking
