Rough Return

Greetings Commanders!

So, I have just returned to the game after a year or so in the real world and I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle but I'm wondering about a coupla things..

Before my break I would get around 90-100 fps in stations. Now I barely get 40. In space my fps has also taken a relative dive.

My rig still benches almost the same with 3D Mark, I have Nvidia Inspector and set the ED profile. is there a reason I'm unaware of that would cause such a loss of in game performance? Graphics Settings have always been Ultra with super sampling @ 1. This is a clean/new Windows install.

I'm also getting graphics client freezes in the System Map, seems like when the highlighted planet changes and only seems to happen with Voice Attack loaded. At least I haven't been able to duplicate the issue without VA on. Is there a known issue that I dunno about there?

Anyways guys thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully y'all'l swamp me with helpful info to sort these out, on account of I'm really keen to get back out there but I'm a tad bummed about these bugs/issues.

Running a GA-Z97X m/b, i7 4790k, 2x GTX 970 (SLI surround enabled), 16 GB ram, Evo 850 SSD, triple monitors @ 5760 x 1080 res. Driver Version is 390.65.

Really appreciate any help! and what's the most fun thing to do IG these days?

Cheers Commanders..

Ron.

First off, and thanks to another forum user, check your "windows game mode" settings. Windows has a DVR now, which records in the background.

Turn it off. Lol

That helped me out.
Also, Vsync has been causing me issues too, and shadows being set above high.

Try the windows thing first though.

Perhaps there's an issue with SLI. It's known to be flaky. Try disabling it.

This..
Every.single.update.

Breaks it.

And that's update to the game, or the drivers for your card.

When it is in sync, it's great.... But that is one update out of five generally.

My advice is sell your cards and buy one even better one with the cash. Multiple cards is basically un-supported

Double check all in-game graphics settings. They have been known to jump to odd default settings during updates, so there might be a graphics overload somewhere.

Edit: and as others have said, SLI tends to create more problems than it solves. Turn it off.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've been called away for a couple of days so I wont be able to fiddle around 'till I get back and i'll let y'all know how things work out.
One thing thou, is it possible to disable SLI and still use the three monitors? The options presented in the control panel revert to a single screen.
Is there a way to do this without physically removing the second card?

Ron

You probably need to pull out the second card. You can run 3 screens off one card. I do. I had SLI but it's busted in Elite.

I, too have 2 x 970s but rarely in SLi.

3 monitor set-up, and (climbs on desk to check back of rig), so I have 2 screens (+ Oculus Rift) plugged into one card, while the 3rd monitor is plugged into the 2nd card's HDMI.

All set-up via nVidia control panel.
