Rough suggest to replace Conflict zones with “Battle zones” for CG (community goals).

HI, i am currently farming conflict zones in solo mode for this event due to overpopulation of CZs in open. Problem is, this to me feels unfair and against what I perceive to be the community and player driven developments (hypocrite?). So while grinding away I had an idea.. battle zones.

To start with each faction/side should have a representing station at which players can take the CG mission and in doing so pledge their allegiance to that side for this CG. After the mission, players while in the active system should now be able to see “Battle Fleet signals” for their faction.

Before each BZ takes place 2 fleets should spawn in approximately 100 km apart and broadcast encrypted signal to pilots of their faction while flying towards each other at a speed of approximately 180kmh. During this phase players can join up with their fleet’s (non faction players are warned to leave and turn hostile after X time). After the 2 fleets converge both fleets deploy their electronic warfare systems and a BZ instance is created.

A Battle Zone would be an area of about maybe 15 km which both sides fight for control of, situated inside of a maybe 20 km no FSD zone due to EWS electronic warfare systems (maybe a only jump out method would be better?). Last team with ships inside the BZ wins the battle. The winning sides players receive bonds for their victory. Faction who wins the most battles wins the war/CG. Victory in battles win wars not just kills look at russia and germany in WW2.

Side notes. I feel ships on opposing sides should not be able to see who is a player and who is npc. If there is an issues with instance numbers have npc ships jump out/in for players to maintain correct size. I feel this would bring greater balance between solo and open modes and promote teamwork.

Some interesting thoughts.

I'd definitely like to see conflict zones be more dynamic. Having objectives would be good. Right now conflict zones are meaningless... they're good for raising combat rank, but there's no sense of having accomplished anything... you just go in and blast enemy ships until you're tired of it. If the conditions of the battle changed over time, and one side or the other could conceivably wun (possibly producing an extra reward, or a small influence shift, it would feel more worthwhile.

We've already seen tweaks to the AI in RES that seem to result in a bounty hunter getting ambushed if they're preying on a particular faction too much (which I love... that feeling of, "Oh, yeah, those pirates REALLY hate me now!" is great, and makes bounty hunting more fun), maybe if you start racking up kills in a conflict zone the enemy should start paying more attention to you?

I like the "join anytime" nature of conflict zones, but i think this could be preserved even with a victory mechanic... in a real war, new hotspots crop up all the time. So, when one CZ ends, have another one pop up somewhere else?

I supect changes will come... CZ's feel like a placeholder mechanic for a more robust battle simulation to come in the future. I don't know how high up on FD's priority stack it is, however.

conflict zones should be giant furballs, with players pvp'ing all over the place. we have 3 factions here. Why not have these areas be a free-for-all? with rewards for killing enemy players on top of the actual CG itself? I honestly don't understand some of the design decisions FD makes..

This is kinda what i was getting at in my 'it need to be deeper' statement in the firs impressions thread. What would bre really cool ( in my opinion) would be to have multiple 'conflict zones' and goals at once that are dynamicaly generated for each faction- perhaps go so far as to allow players to help 'conquer' boarder systems for their faction upon which one of the other factions would contest it if its close enough to thier own territory.

Im only starting my 2nd week and a just dont feel theirs enough depth. ED has VOLUME of content in spades, but after you dabbled in this n that none of it really seems to matter or carry any weight besides another way to get creds and up grade your ship... i really fear that once i have a pimped out 'conda i'll become bored; which is a shame considering how awesome this game is.

Yup,there needs to be a victory situation, capture the flag etc. Also I very rarely see players in war zones, maybe 1 every couple of days usually I end up spoiling our relationship

I get insane lag in open in war zones, indestructible ships, warping, jumping, the whole nine yards. My ADSL is 16 down but only .5 up, and it just doesn't work.

edit: sorry, this in response to GibMeister saying he hardly sees anyone.

Intersting idea, although it would involve waiting.

I would like FD to involve SC in wars and sutch.
Seems so strange to fly calmly alonge in SC with only a few CZ's where the action is.
Would be nice to have opposing forces flying about who will (try and) force you to leave the system or choose a side.
You would have to be able to choose a faction in the system for that.
Would be good for lockdown as well.
It's strange that we can just go about our business unhinderd wile a system is in lockdown.... Not realy locked down is it?

Anyway, here's hoping for 1.3.

Interesting suggestion, could be kinda tricky though, unless there was a way to at least for the length of a community goal set a side and keep it, otherwise it would just seem pointless.

That said, for the love of everything decent, stop applying a color to text, leave it the generic text color, this way it will be readable to everyone regardless of theme, right now black on black due to browser forum elite theme, which I think most use, so please stop.

Yes, when I had 2 Meg ADSL I had the same issues....I got 76meg fibre last week and it has improved but its still not perfect which leads me to think its the FD servers!
