Roughly how many planets can you land on?

wildlife is just fancy graphics that adds very little to elite, landing on a planet, even if each and every one where devoid of plant life would do more to get me interested... i would prefere having planetary fillings added on later than not to be able to land on a planet

How about a scenario where as part of a job you have to capture a specific type of animal for delivery to a private collectors zoo in another system. Maybe you have to attempt to find a hunters party that has gotten lost and one of the members is royalty that is being hunted by bounty hunters and you have to protect them, perhaps you're the bounty hunter!

It's not just pretty graphics, it an element of realism that no game has attempted before.

How about franchising the planetary content so that other companies or individuals can add content. Imagine landing on a planet and having part of the gameplay\rewards done through a first person shooter. Bombard a facility from space and then land and carry out an assault?

Land and integrate into Farmville (not serious), plough a field or whatever turns you on.

This could be paid for through microtransactions.

Or maybe certain parties require things to be delivered to order - such as rare animals that aren't available on the stock market, so you have to go out there and capture them yourself.

This game is going to make so-called sandbox games like GTA look like a sand pot plant. ;) What are Frontier attempting here: Elite vs GTA vs Far Cry 3? My head is swimming with the possibilities...

Yes! I keep saying, the FE2 planets were great... for a while. But the bases offered no more than the space stations did and there was nothing in between them.

As it a space sim if they go implement it likevsim. This we know. Every hard surfaced planet or moon or astroid or komet with gravity up to around 1G. With some decent amount of flat surface no enviorment that destroy your ship. And easy weather.
Knowing that each star has a few planets. Young stars in more then 100 protoplanets. There would be zillions.

Also gravity most gas gints have huge gravity. You need to have enough impuls power to break low orbit after scoping.
Also it looks like planets are very diverse
So making a very diverse procedural algoritm to populate the galacy with stars and even a lot more planets.

Blackhole have a event horizon for light.
But for engines like iondrives the real ones earth 1G is to much to take of.

So fuel scoping on a 5G gasgiant you acceleration power need to be huge. Als wenn you are flyin in the atmosfere with 5G only well trained military pilots can handle that. No old space trucker on heart medication.

So how many a GAZILLION

In game, well it looks like its a huge feature to do right so my guess it not part of the basic feature set.

Wonder if a few industry favours might be called in. Maybe those good folks at Robert Space Industries could pony up some spare cash from behind the sofa.

That would not be appropriate use of their Kickstarter funds. Although they do have funds from other sources.

Aside from just plain not being "right". Does bring up the interesting point of x% royalties for pledges over £100,000 :) .

I was just wandering how far off target this thread was going to go.

As Steve rightly says - the answer to flight, the universe and planetary landings is nuffink.

I'm much more optimistic about planet landings than i was some weeks ago. I think i'm going to up my pledge and go for the 80+ pounds pledges that give the free expansions. It's not such a big deal. I understand that they want to do it the right way, and they don't have too much time to do it for the first release, so, i will trust them :)
