Route Planning - Is It Me?

Hi,

Before the release of 1.3 is was plotting my routes in the region I'm in by un-ticking both Economical & Fastest Routes from within the Navigation Tab. This resulted in my next jump being direct, unless of course it was beyond my jump range.

Now when I do the same (Both Jump options un-ticked) it ends up plotting a route via the houses?

I can get it to do it, direct jumps by selecting the Fastest Routes, but if I then have none selected it seems to be a strange route plotted and after some toggling of the options it does select a direct route when both aren't selected.

Might just be me, but this tweaked Galaxy Map is taking some getting used to.

Regards

Also, once the System is entered into the Search field, hitting Return/Enter doesn't seem to do anything?! End up having to click on the > button twice!.

Nope, me too, but not every time.

I am also losing all my map option settings each time I get logged out to main menu - which happened a lot today. Very irritating to go back and reselect the star classes etc.

And I am getting missing/flashing text in the new info pop-up when you mouse over a star...if I can get it to pop-up over the star I want...which isn't often...

As you say, it is taking some getting used to.

Certainly does feel different.

It also looks a lot more cluttered than it used to when you first open the Galaxy Map, but I can't put my finger on what is causing it.

It's showing massively more star names, no idea why as they overlap so much that you can't read them anyway. And then there are those oversized blue dots. This is the how space just 1,100 LY from Sol looks like at the default zoom level and it takes me ages to make any sense of it. It's not even as though it's actually showing any more information than before. Horrible design and I can't believe that the devs actually thought this was an improvement :(

Those dots certainly don't help in any way at all, or at least they don't for me.

IMO there was nothing wrong with the way the Galaxy Map was displayed previously, Why have they been added?

Possibly it's a change for Power Play and assists in populated areas, but out in the void it just distracts you. Although if it is for PP then the map in populated space must be a complete dogs dinner visually.

When unticking both options, I tend to first tick fastest then untick both.

Nothing seems to have changed here for me anyway...

I'm sure that in 1.2 mine always defaulted to Economy, so I just unticked it and it worked, now I seem to have to do some random combination to get it to work, unlike before.

Also, the not being able to just hit the Enter/Return key is a slight annoyance, especially when I now need to click on the > button twice.

They darkened the circles where the star's drop down line meets the horizontal plane. Previously they had a much higher transparency and were barely visible. This has effectively doubled the amount objects on the Galaxy Map. It's not an improvement imo.

I find my biggest issue right now being that I can't plot routes with jumps within my range. My max range is ~31ly and for some reason I can't plot a jump between systems that are only 23ly apart?

The new blueish dots are horrible, bigger and more opaque, beside that the tooltip in the systemmap is way longer than bevore, preventing you from clicking onto the next planet... unticking both route options never worked for me anyway, allways ploted the economical route just withough seeing the lines :) (thats at least what i thought it does)

Yeah, the label in the System Map is rather long now as well. Noticed this earlier and had to click past the object I wanted to select and then click on the one I wanted info on. Not too sure why it's been made that long?

dunno, maybe for "power" info's?
anyway, i get those bloody random crashes after leaving hyperspace... biggest issue right now

Hopefully there will be a patch by Monday, not for the Galaxy & System Map gripes, but to resolve the connection/network problems people are experiencing.

I also hear that selling data is taking longer than normal.

Anyone else getting stars only appearing in a small bubble around you on the Galaxy Map on Map View? Used to be you could see all the systems zooming out for a fair old distance.

On a positive note though, black hole lensing's rendering properly now.

Probably not... but, rather selfishly, I'd rather have a game I could actually play ("Load Failed" message all the time - its been "fixed" twice, both times failing the first jump and getting load failed thereafter). Stability first... gameplay second... appearance third!

I'm on way back from sagittarius A* (5k from sag A and 20000 from the system i started from in civilised space, i've only got class K and non-sequence stars selected, am in map mode and have removed star names etc.. the below video on youtube is my experience for every current route plot right now, if its not 5 mins, its 10.. and fps drops to 0.7 when calculating a route.

The galaxy map did not need changing for power play except for the power play influence bits, but that should IMHO not affect people who are out exploring as they are too far away to care.

Explorers took a very bad hit with powerplay.. and the below demonstrates why.

I dunno. I was just online, plotting a route from the FLYOOE HYPUE sector towards the core. Didn't have any problems figuring a route, unchecking both boxes gave me the same # of jumps for a 998ly route as the fast route.

What I did have problems with was having to detail scan twice frequently, excessively long hyperspace tunnels, and dropping twice in six jumps. So I logged off again.
