Route Planning Near Sagittarius A*

I have seen several posts indicating that once you reach a certain distance from the centre of the galaxy (Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole), that route planning stops working, and all further jumps to reach the centre must from that point be plotted manually.

On my approach, at about 2000LY, I did indeed find that the route planner stopped dead when trying to plot a just under 1000LY route, and could only manage around 250LY before giving up entirely.

Not being one to walk away from a challenge, I have found a solution:-

All that is required is to switch the view in the galaxy map to realistic. It still takes a bit longer than normal to plot a route, be here is the proof:-

Sit back and enjoy the ride, home in time for cornflakes. :)

I started the trip yesterday. I will keep this topic near me, for when I will get close to destination.
With the time I have to play, it's not for soon xD

It usually works. It just depends how long you are willing to wait. ;)

I set the route planner then go off and do something else for half an hour while I was in the core...

Interesting.
What is your maximum jump range? Maybe it's the crazy amounts of possibilities when having 35LY+ capability that hampers down the route planner.
I for sure started to get problems only 9000LY from Sag A*.

My Python tops out at ~27LY, so this may be a factor. However, having experienced the problem at around 2000LY, to have it alleviated entirely merely by changing the way the stars are displayed, certainly seems to point an issue in the code. More processor cores will not help either, as I observed only a single core spiking during route calculations.

StorminOn, have a safe voyage good sir, may it be as steady and sure as mine has been (98% hull, only one incident so far, due to loss of concentration during FS drop).

As for time to calculate purplepomegranite, it took around a minute to calculate the route shown.

I think the planner tries to find the best route at any cost while a good route found at reasonable cost would suffice

^^^ This. I'd like an option to "just find me any route". When exploring you're hardly likely to be bothered about the quickest or cheapest, since you aren't buying fuel, and you don't need to be anywhere fast.

EDIT: perhaps, along with "Quickest", and "Economical" just have a "First" - the first route the nav computer finds regardless.

You can restrict you range on route planning though...can't you? (with the sliders?)

Made it, actually bumped into another Cmdr, who had been hanging around for about 5 minutes prior to my arrival. Chatted for a bit, took a few group pictures, and went our separate ways:-

I found that within 1000 light years its quicker to plot single routes, even plotting 2 jumps makes everything freeze up. Coming back, its a relief to finally be able to plot multi jumps again.

Very hit and miss from what I have seen.

The last long route I planned near the core of about 900lys took about 35mins to complete! I left it going while on a break, half expecting it will never complete. I have had 2 jump routes not complete, but for me changing the filters makes no difference so far in my travels.

I figured I needed to get a CPU upgrade for my Asp LOL :)

I gave up waiting for the planner before I hit the 2000ly mark. With a 39.4ly capable Anaconda the possible combinations are way too many.
It was faster to set the next jump manually which also allowed me to do up to 41.1ly jumps on low fuel, saving time.

Yup - this ended up being my solution too.

I ended up kicking off a fitness regime in the time it took to calculate the route...

I still think it would be awesome if we could manually plot our jumps up to 1000Ly, or whatever limitation they want to impost (50 jumps? 100?)
Z...

I recognise that T6! :D

Thanks for the tip, I will try that out on the way out.

Next chance to play will be on Wednesday, so have left the ship at Sagittarius A for the time being!

I've been thinking the same thing, Fast, Slow, and Half-Fast. ;)
