Rudder pedals, yes or no?

Hey,

Im considering purchasing rudder pedals for that extra bit of immersion.

Before I purchase though, I was hoping to hear from people who use 'em. Is it hard to get used to? And, can you still sit comfortably when u use them (im playing in a chair behind a desk)? And any other feedback you might have.

Cheers all & fly safe!,

I don't have them yet, but I will be getting them. Primarily because I want to use a Warthog (own a Saitek X52 Pro currently). People that have them, love them. But I'm going to be going all out and attach them to a flight simulator seat that will see the pedals and Warthog screwed down for stability. If I was playing from the couch (as I do today), I'd stay away from pedals and stick with a twist rudder.

I have a full CH HOTAS, including the pedals, and IMO they're great. I use the pedals for yaw, and while they took a bit to get used to (I don't come from a flight sim background) all it took was a little bit of practice. I also find they're quite comfortable to use, but then I built one of those do-it-yourself HOTAS rigs, so your milage may vary.

I must admit, ive alway used a twisty joystick, but I'm all for immersion and enough people have used that word when describing the use of pedals to tweak my interest.
Is their a particular set that you guys would recommend and does Elite Dangerous allow the use of them?

I'm using CH Pro pedals alongside a Saitek X-65F. Could never get used to the stick-twisting, but pedals are very easy to use. Not much getting used to, comfortable for resting my feet on, good for immersion. I have them situated under my desk, with a couple of small wooden chocks between them and the wall to keep them from sliding backwards.

Would highly recommend if you have the funds :)

Hey,

Im looking to purchase the Saitek Pro Flight Pedals.

I read some reviews, and some say go for the CH pedals they are sturdier hence will last longer, and some say got for the Saitek because the dimensions make them more comfortable to use.

The Saiteks are also 50 euros cheaper, and I aint rich, so...

Cheers,

I agree with CMDR Stevenson

Full CH HOTAS here, and the pedals are great for immersion and feeling you are really flying a ship.

Right toe forward thruster, left toe pedal reverse and rudder mapped to yaw. Making turns with yaw isn't quick but in a fire-fight the added movement helps with aiming. Left toe braking is a lot of fun when approaching a station too quickly, I'm practically standing while trying to stop. Pedals add to the E: D experience and to every sim you play.

i bought these Pro Flight Cessna Rudder Pedal (PC DVD) as i heard they just work with elite D - still getting used to it but very handy.
was going to strip it for the switches and retro fit to my xbox controller but at the mo im using as they are and very good

Definite Yes.....I have Saitek Combat pedals and they do add to the immersion of piloting a ship.......I used to have a twisty joy...But I found myself twisting it when not really wanting to....

Question, does the roll vary in intensity depending on how far you step down on the pedal?

Yes. The intensity varies according to how much you push/press, so you have full control over the amount of roll/yaw/thrust you apply.

The CH Pros (and I presume all the others) give you three inputs - one for "pushing" the pedals (which is what most people will use for yaw), and one for "tipping" each of the pedals by pushing down with your toes (which, in an aircraft, would activate the wheel brakes). You can map these to whatever functions you want in Elite.

If, as me, you are a old hand at flight sims. Then absolutely yes.
If not, you can probably just as well use a twist stick and get used to that , as you
reflexes not is trained yet.
Using saitek pro, and love them .

Once you have them you will never go back!

I consider pedals essential for flight-sims but I think a twist-stick would be perfectly adequate for ED. The yaw is so nerfed it's useless in combat. And if you don't have a twist-stick a top-hat would be good enough. I use yaw only for fine adjustments on docking etc.

How do you hit anything with fixed weapons if you don't use yaw? Either you are exaggerating, or you are exclusively using gimbaled weapons and missiles. I find myself using pedals just as much as in any flight sim... quite a lot.
