PvP Rumors of Death from Griefers are greatly exaggerated

I had not done CGs at all until the past couple months. No real reason other than I was always pursuing my own paths. Engineering goals, mat gathering for engineering, credit farming, trying out mission types I hadn't tried before etc.
Seldom ever met any live players whilst doing those things. I tended to mat gather in solo as I wanted to focus on gathering only without worrying about losing my ship to some dillrod while I'm 10km away in my SRV.
The past couple months I've attended some CGs for the first time. I like the bounty hunting and combat bond ones. Have not been griefed even once and I fly solo. I did get interdicted in my Vette by a mostly harmless guy in a Kraite playing pirate. Was rather amusing since I had no cargo, was loaded for bear with full G5 engineered everything, HRs and prismatics etc. I submitted and just sat there stunned while he pasted a pretty amusing pirate text in chat asking for my cargo. I replied "dude, I have no cargo! I do have 2 Huge PAs and 5 MCannons" and I deployed hard points. [yesnod] NO that's ok he said. "I really need to get a manifest scanner" and I let him sc away.

Other than that funny event everyone in open has been cool, willing to wing up in res sites/combat zones and very friendly and polite. I keep reading about gankers on this forum. Where are they?

Do you see other CMDRs to wing up with in the CG? If your not seeing anyone that tells you something.

If you were at the last CG bad luck, everyone except you was in Fuelum shooting enemies of huma... ahem enemies of the fuel rats :D

I suppose it's possible that less griefing is going on just recently, what with all the discussion that has taken place here. I notice that a number of PvP starlords are less active currently, so there's fewer celebrations of 'murder' and endless whinge about 'combat logging'. Of course they will all be busy refitting Belugas for long range exploration and going mining won't they, so there's that.

Open hasnt been quiet by any means, but in the last month or so, I've not had to smash boost to evade an assailant at a CG

Rofl,
not getting ganked or griefed, at least a single time? Friendly Pirate? Roleplay banter after interdiction? Not in an shieldless, defenseless ship - even got credits for rebuy??[up]

(facepalm)

You doing it soo wrong dude! :S:rolleyes:;)

Have fun man, good to hear actually positive stuff about Open.

Fly save!

S!

Yeh, but dude, if you're in like, Vanuatu with a rank bad Internet connection...
Lol.:D

I'm in Hawai'i and have played with people in Europe, and it worked just fine.
That's literally the other side of the planet, and I am on the most geographically isolated spot on said planet.
Seems to me that people put way too much weight into that concept.

Ask and you shall receive!
At the current CG I have been interdicted by wings of FDLs 2x, attacked while in Haz-res. by a wing of FDLs with "Kumo Crew" labels and attacked 2x within 30 minutes while in haz-res. by a wing of mine laying Cobras.
Kumo crew almost popped me. I didn't realize my wing mates fled and I started fighting when I get wing chat "Run, wingman#1 left and I am too!". By the time I broke mass lock from the planet to jump out they had my shields down and were hammering at my hull.

The cobra fights were a lot of fun. I was in a wing with another Vette and a FAS enjoying bounty hunting when out of nowhere 3 wanted pvp cobras swooped in and attacked us. Honestly we were stunned at first. Broke off from the NPCs we were attacking and beat them back until they boosted away from us to SC. Never expected them to return but 20mins later BAM they are on us again. They actually killed off our FAS and my wingmate Vette eventually left the fight. I stayed and fought. Killed one and the others ran. I guess they were out of mines?
Thanks to Electric Kite for the helpful hints here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/442026-THIS-is-how-you-deal-with-Mine-layer-Cobra-Gankers as I had no experience fighting PvP vs. mine layers. Not getting baited into straight lines into mines was the key for me.
The adrenaline rush you get being ambushed is awesome. I have very little PvP experience (diplomatic way to say I suck) and my ship was not loaded for PvP either being mostly lasers and bio-weaves since I was NPC bounty hunting but against a few Cobras I had confidence and stayed to fight. Landing a few huge PA hits helped a lot. I will say those guys have big cahoonas attacking a wing like ours ship-size-wise.

Anyway, to all you crybabies:
1. I am in a slow Vette. Cruise at ~340, boost to 370 yet managed to escape after submitting to wings of FDLs simply by facing them, boosting toward them, then high-waking to a nearby system. Easy peasy.
2. The 3 fights in HazRes wing vs. wing were exhilarating fun even though we weren't politely asked before being fired on. I hope they attack us again tonight. It was that fun.

Put on your big boy / big girl pants and enjoy this aspect of the game!

I like to sit in my Corvette at jameson memorial & wait for griefers hanging around just outside the no fire zone ( normally cutters ) then head out and torpedo the crap out of them , the damn shields on them cutters can take some punishment.
Wish the Corvette was faster cos I hate watching cutters fly off into the distance to escape the death they deserve.
I got gang banged by a wing of vipers & diamondback scouts last night in a haz res & had to do a runner , they were glued to my Corvettes butt & stayed glued even when I was reversing there was nothing I could do except run away like a .

Rumors of death in a game where you are permanently strapped to an infallible, uninterceptable, ejection seat, with it's own warp drive, aren't just exaggerated...

I'm too dumb to understand what that means I guess. :S

Your CMDR cannot die. Your ship explodes, you eject and nigh instantly appear at the nearest starport, where they magically have a fresh ship waiting for you with the exact same specs, down to the experimental customizations, and all your CMDR has to do is cover five-percent of the value of the ship you just totaled.

That last part escaped me until now...

It's even in the manual!

Ahh ok!
BTW thanks for your Vette loadout tips in other thread.

I have never met a pirate CMDR who has asked for cargo yet. If I ever do, I will absolutely hand some over. Just for the experience. I hope to get a receipt.

"What do you have in your hold?"

"Uhh, six HRPs, an MRP, a fighter hangar, dual quick charge A7s SCBs, an AFMU, and reinforced fast-charge biweaves."

"Lower your shields and submit to boarding; we're sending over a salvage team!"
