Rumoured, reported confirmed discoveries - confused :-/

Hi guys, not too sure about how this works. I found a Biological location (well, several) on a planet - and there were a bunch of Anemone like critters on the surface. Reluctantly I shot off some bits and pieces and collected the resulting mineral deposits. The thing is, I thought this would show up in my codex, or do I need to get to a starbase and cash in my discovery data?

I did scan them, but there was no confirmation I'd actually captured any data in the way theat there is with planets/Thargoids etc.

Thanks for any clarification. :)

You need to use the compositional scanner on the objects themselves and scan them. No need to sell dat. Note you cant select the objects, just point the scanner and hold the button assigned in the firegroup panel.

Rumoured= we know this type of object exists in this region, but noone found it.
Reported=someone other than you found this type somewhere in the region.
Confirmed= You also found this type somewhere in the region.

In other words, you need to only find an object once anywhere in a region to add it to your codex as reported, and if you are the first to find that type everyone can see your name in the codex.

Many thanks, Ian.

Sorry, I suspect I'm being a bit thick, but "compositional scanner"? Is this on my SRV? Or is it the one on the ship used with derelict space hulks etc?

Your SRV comes with one as well, but the default fire groups aren't set up for it - go into fire groups and enable it.

So where does "rumored" come from? FD?

Oh, I think I get it - it's the default state. It's just that everything in the codex has been bumped to reported.

Its a new scanner, all ships, ship-launched fighters andvsrv have one. You need to bind it in the firegeoup panel, but can use the same button as the 'data link scanner' (the one you use on wrecks). That way you only have one scan button, and the game will work out which one it needs. :)

Yes, it is how they can steer us to discoveries, either from the start or when we take too long. They can also 'chain' stuff: as soon as someone finds a data log on a new ruin, the rumour contained there is added for all in the codex. Galnet is used to provide a lore background. ("Media are suggesting blabla")

Yes, FD would set something as rumoured. And presumably provide just a little more info than "it's somewhere within an entire multi-billion star region", too, in most cases.

So far things have been going straight to reported as people find them.
