Run out of fuel? Use Jumponium.

Please everybody feel free to laugh and point if I am last to the "party" on this but were we all aware that a dose of Jumponium can also be used to extend the range of your dwindling fuel supply?

You may only need a paltry 10 ly to jump to a fuel star but if you've not got enough fuel... use Jumponium!

So I figured this out yesterday. Hopefully I won't need it

I agree... it can be a life saver (for you or the fuelrats). I almost became stranded in a very sparse area because I was running on fumes and jumped to a TTauri because I forgot to check the next star before jumping. Only 1.5 tons of fuel and the nearest star was a 50 ly. Called the fuelrats and while they were starting to plan how to do the rescue I remembered the jumponium. Turns out an Anaconda can jump 50 ly with only 1 ton of fuel if you use a lvl3 jumponium.

Happy ending and one fuelrat less busy with a commander far from the inhabited space.

That's it, it isn't that we don't know our ship uses less fuel per ly with Jumponium its that we just don't necessarily associate Jumponium with short low fuel jumps. Before I twigged that I could well imagine not figuring that out if I was panicked and out of fuel!!

Been there... several times. Had a big smile on my face when the first time around I noticed I could get out of there with the help of a little J

It's amazing how many simple things we don't know about. There was a great thread where people listed theirs, very educational.

I always carry Jumponium but as yet, haven't needed it. Which is surprising given how little attention I pay sometimes.

I actually thought about that a while ago, but I haven't really used it at any point, but it's great that you confirm the suspicion. Now I just have to remember to use it if I get into a sticky situation.

Used this 'trick' on the way back from DWE after not paying enough attention to the number of nonscoopables I'd hit and finding the big juicy K class in front of me was, in fact, a T Tauri.
