Run VR without a 'second' monitor output?

I'm 2 days into my RIFT VR and ED experience and I'm mightily impressed. I've read the numerous posts about maximizing visual quality etc and am still experimenting to get a happy medium.

But I have a quick and hopefully simple question though. Is there a way to disable output to the monitor screen while running the RIFT? If systems need maximum CPU and GPU resources to get the best VR experience then surely having to run a 'second' monitor will impact on performance? When I'm in RIFT I don't need to look at my monitor so why bother expending resources on rendering a second image?

Regards,

WB.

Actually, I'm curious too, partly to know if you can even us the rift as a primary (and only) screen, for when you are renovating, and do not have your computer area set up, but are desperate to play, and.. Erm.. I think I have said enough.

The monitor screen window doesn't take up very much of your video card resources at all. It'd be less than a millisecond or two at the most.

The window shows the left eye frame before it gets warped to suit the Rift/Vive lenses; there's just some re-scaling to whatever resolution you have the window set at, is all.

i.e. no real performance gain by dropping it.
