Newcomer / Intro Running out

As we all may know everything eventually runs out. I have been slightly skeptical of this game for the reason that though it takes places over a whole galaxy, it's resources should run dry. Now I have only played a small bit so I have no idea if resources respawn. And on the other downside in the case that resources DO respawn, most areas will be taken and extremely hard for beginners to start. Now tell me if I am wrong about any of this. Just kind of wonderous.

I am not entirely sure, but is your question about mining?

If so, I believe that every time you enter the ring/RES/belt a new instance is created for you. Which means that, although you could possibly run out if you mined long enough (Well some belts have like five asteroids. :D) but as soon as you leave the site and someone else (or you) reenters, new instance with new asteroids is made.

The Earth weighs about 5.97x10^24kg. That's 5.97x10^21 ton. Some of these belt clusters are orbiting planets far far far larger and more massive than earth. I'd expect it to take longer for you to explore all of ED's systems than have a single RES run dry :p

But yea, as far as i'm aware everything is infinite, the prices for commodities are dictated by trade demand/supply not physical demand/supply and when you enter an area from hyperspace/super cruise a fresh instance is built for you, though other players may also join.

Space is mind-boggling massive.

To put this in context, aside from actual resources running out and just take a minute to ponder which stars have been "first discovered" by commanders.

In the #62 newsletter, by the middle of Feb 2015 actual commanders have only discovered 0.00223% of what is out there. I think you'll be fine not to worry about resources running out.

I'm pretty sure with billions of star systems, while not technically infinite, it might as well be. No way is anyone going to see anywhere near all of that anytime soon.

No one will ever see every system in game. Our life spans are far too short.

I thought along similar lines for a while, until I saw my first Resource Extraction Site - There are thousands of asteroids on screen and this is just in my visual site range (20- 30k?) and this is the tiny itty bitty section of the belt that I supercruised to in front of the planet - If every player in the game equipped mining gear, Id guess it would take at least a couple months* to fully drain 1 Resource Extraction site.

*Just a very rough guestimate

Yup, it's scary big. Kinda gives you that warm fuzzy feeling eh

Lol it is scary big. But that provides so much comfort. Its not something you think about often, but when you are looking to buy a new game you want to make sure there is stuff to do that others havent. Or that there is enough "space" left for you. People want to know that if they buy a game that allows (for example) player/guild villages and towns, that there is actually enough room left if you want your own town.

They want to know that if they decide to start mining, that all the "good stuff" isnt gone. I love that this game is scary big, and this is one of the reasons why...

Me too, and there's so much potential there. No one will run out of space. Imagine being able to set up your own personal mini outpost that you could use for storage, refining, ships etc. I have no idea if that's a future plan of the devs. I suppose they could have planet based "stations" instead.
