Hardware & Technical RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB?

Really hoping to buy a new graphics card by the year's end.

Purchased new, these are the most realistic options for my budget.

Which would be better? £300 is my budget, so it's just a case of choosing the better card. Rest of my system, including current GPU, is in my signature.

Broad as they are long.

Some games perform better on one card, others on the other.

BY the years end a lot may have changed, as Vega will be out in the next month or two and that may have altered the market somewhat, especially the pricing of cards.

580 two reasons it is moderately better than the 1060 and cheaper.
On a plus side, you get to use Mantle in most EA titles.

To answer which is better for this game, it is apples to apples both will run this game maxed out.

Well, FWIW it's worth, the newest game I actually play is Elite.

The second-newest game in my library is Skyrim. I won't count SSE as my original Skyrim is more demanding because mods.

Most of my games are from the 2000's! XD

It all depends on the site you use, for example this one:https://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Radeon-RX-580-8GB-Review-Polaris-Populism shows that while the 580 does outperform the 480 in all cases, it does lose out to the 1060 in most cases too...

If power consumption is your thing, the 1060 has a 60-80W advantage.

If outright FPS is your thing then the 1060 is also the one to go for (in most cases) - on that sites test set.

Even with the increased voltage offset, not all 480s are going to be stable with a 580 bios and clocks.

So, if you do this, make sure you test it thoroughly.

True, and it would only really be viable on a switchable BIOS 480, at least then if it all goes pear shaped you can switch back to the original!

Id say it's not worth flashing a 480 to get an additional 5 fps imo. Better to increase clock speed on the 480 instead.
