Hardware & Technical Ryzen Pricing looks promising ...

They've removed it now, but LambdaTek were listing the 1700 at low £300's yesterday, which I think was inc VAT. The models up from that were not of interest to me so I don't recall what they were. Still lots of unknowns and assumptions, but the architecture diagrams presented at ISSCC still point towards a much weaker FPU design than Intel which is the part I'm most interested in. I think AMD have taken the mass market route, giving enough performance in mainstream uses but not fully matching Intel in every niche area. I expect that to be a source of internet arguments for years to come...

I'm still waiting for the mid range / budget pricing. I'm looking to upgrade my system sooner rather than later but at the moment the Pentium G4560 seems like the best budget option. I know that Ryzen is well priced for a decent high end processor but AMD needs to cater for their core customers and quite frankly they aren't looking for £100 plus in most cases.

Don't get me wrong, if I were in the position of being able to afford £300 just for the CPU then Ryzen would be the preferred choice for bang over buck. Sadly it isn't just now, I need to see AMD's budget offering before I'm persuaded off intel (now that is saying something).

I'm tempted by the 1700 at £320, which is price comparable to 6700k/7700k levels with half the core count. What about performance? Unless it sucks so bad to be half IPC of Intel, you're still going to be ahead in general compute terms. There is one niche case where I think that will be the case, but outside that, it'll probably be plenty of CPU for the money.

Now, if only I can find somewhere listing mobos too...
