Sabine Schmitz the undisputed Queen of the ring, has passed away, after a long fight with cancer.

For those of you who don't know the legend she was: Here's a little example.

Nurburgring ring: In a van.

Background: Jeremy Clarkson, spent weeks, trying to get a Jaguar around the ring, in under 10 minutes. When he did it, she said that she could do the in a van.

Genuinely sorry to hear that.

Other than her few appearances on TG and similar shows, she never really got the recognition she deserved.

Took my MR2 to the Nurbergring years ago and got her autograph in the car park.
Went to ask her to sign my ticket, expecting to leave straight afterwards and ended up talking to her for nearly an hour and she only left when one of her customers showed up.
Genuinely wonderful person.

Says a lot about her skill as a driver that she hustled a standard diesel Tranny van around the 'ring in 10m 08s and Celebrity bike racer Guy Martin only managed to beat her time by around 30 seconds even though he was driving a custom-built 700hp mid-engined "van" with a spaceframe chassis, racing suspension and slick tyres.

She seemed really nice as well as being scarily talented, shame to lose another one to the big "c".

I think: At least she really enjoyed what she did for a living and looks like, she had a fun and full filling life, generally.

She was brilliant at what she did.
