Sadistic mission design

So, we all get it, occasionally. A mission description isn't quite as clear as it could have been. It tells you to go kill someone, and then it turns out that's the boss of the local cops, which will get you a big bounty on your head if you kill him. Or the mission description doesn't clearly describe the mission as being a multi-part one.

I think I hit the jackpot today. The delivery mission turned out to be multi-part. And the last destination ends up being... Hutton Orbital!

Currently cruising at 1380 c and accelerating, the timer tells me I have an hour and 10 minutes left before I arrive... They really should give some advance warning about stuff like that.

yeah missions are ... lacking. But let's hope the revamp next patch will fix that in some extent. Don't forget your mug when you arrive at Hutton Orbital

To be fair...if you get a mission to kill someone in real life you are probably going to get a bounty put on your head too... :p

And whoever orders the hit isn't going to give a fair and balanced view of who the other person is either. Your job is to kill that person and not ask questions. ;)

Multi-part missions are usually marked with and icon like this:

But yeah...as already mentioned. Mission will become clearer with 2.1/1.6! :)

You got effectively trolled by the game and somebody at FD is laughing evilly right now. :D

But look at the bright side:

  • If you haven't been at Hutton Orbital before, you are now part of the Mug Runners club!
  • Two rares available at HO
  • Your paint job will get that exclusive "Millenium Falcon" wear look
  • You have 90 minutes to watch TV, read a book or browse the forums.

Don't forget to repair your ship integrity, though!

And for the love of pete don't take any missions from the station when you get there that might even possibly involve you having to return to collect your payment!

Well, unless you've got a few jobs around the ship to do to keep you busy on the journey

I avoid multi-part missions... lots of scope for bad things with those. At the least the value goes down as you wind up buying commodities to complete each leg. As for the kill mission for the chief of the local cops... It usually reads 'Can you kill good - Real good'... avoid those too unless you want to become persona-non-grata in that system (assuming you don't get killed real good by the Officer in question!)

May you grow wings and speed to Hutton successfully :)

Yeah, the ship integrity bill might end up being impressive!

Speed dropping again, below 1800 c now. Getting there slowly at extremely high speed. I'm thinking they should allow jumps within systems like this.

Also, there's a planet named Eden there. The name suggests it's a nice place. The description of the planet itself, though... It might not be so comfortable there after all!

Oh, and I do know assasination missions come with some risk. But some are legitimate, asking you to get rid of a criminal or pirate.

Another interesting observation: acceleration gets insane if you're about halfway between the arrival point and Hutton. Zero to 1500c in seconds.

I agree. My first real experiences of Elite missions was in the 80s with the original game, and to be honest I preferred those because you got what you asked for. It seems most of what is on offer in the game nowadays is for those wanting to participate in illegal activities, and this includes federal missions. Even when you take on a mission you have no idea what you end up having to do. Why they can’t do something which is more inline with Privateer 2 where you participated in a long meaningful quest rather than being offered meaningless missions which don’t really do much except give us reputation.
