Safe Disengage Distance and SC

So far I'm enjoying the the game... and I understand that things are to an extent still work in progress.

But does anyone else feel that the 'Safe Disengage Distance' of 1Mm is a little too near ?
My thinking is that this could easily be buffed to around 10Mm and there would be little or no impact to significant gameplay features, but it would decrease the time spent on each and every jump to docking run by around 15 - 20 secs.

I also had another thought re improving the SC experience ...
Allowing for faster acceleration or better still introduce active braking deceleration whilst in SC (rather than just the current 'passive' throttling back) this could drastically reduce the time spent slowing down and thus overall time spent in SC.

What do you think ?

IDK, I'm fine with 1Mm myself - no problems so far.

Yea, why not - if tied to FSD quality.

Personally the time I spend in SC doesn't bother me at all, I scan ships, look at the view, check the stats and systems panels etc.

I think patience is part of the game experience, it's not a game for those without it.

Maybe people are too used to the 'instant everything' lifestyle we seem to have these days.

Maybe it's my age, but I like the 'pace' of the game.

It's an hour or two of stress-free flying/trading, interrupted by minutes of frantic activity while you dock/get attacked or whatever :)

I love it - leave it alone..

As I'm in my mid forties I think I've developed a fair bit of patience now, and yes you're right that the pace of the game feels right.

Maybe my judgement is being clouded by the fact that I'm currently set in a rut of grinding trade to get to a Python from my T7, Asp & Viper.

I do honestly feel that SC can be tedious though.... so

Maybe its time to jump in the Viper and head off to a High Intensity Conflict Zone for a bit of action.

Why do you think that disengaging further away from the spaceport would decrease the time to docking? You would be further from the spaceport (or are you assuming that you would end up at the same place)? Now I would prefer that it be further away so that there was more distance from drop out to spaceport, preferably with the game we used to have in beta where you could drop really close if you judged it right, but potentially end up crashing. With more distance from spaceport to drop zone there would be opportunity for more interaction, like the original Elite dash for the spaceport. However, no point in doing any of that until FD have fixed consequences: we certainly do not need more places for jerks to be jerks at the moment.

I was indeed thinking that safe disengage would drop you out of SC directly at the space port as it does now.
Same result as dropping when at 1Mm - just you get to save 15-20 secs of 'wasted' time. I've never experienced interdiction (or anything else for that matter) happen when less than 1Ls from my target station nevermind as near as 10Mm.

Because so far, it makes no difference in timing if you exit the FSD at 1 Mm or 250 km, since the destination lock still drops you about 9 km from the station. So the (reasonable) expectation is that an earlier FSD exit leads to the same result, but requires les travel time.

I tend to agree, I'd suggest the FSD exit being available at about 7 Mm distance (with the same minimum speed), since that is where you end up flying the regular 6 or 7 seconds "approach". There's a bit of a cut here... first, textbook aproach, then a couple of seconds slowly bumbling along, then FSD exit. It's lacking smoothness.

In Beta we jumped in closer, eh... sometimes too close, especially if you approach a starport from behind, some are really lomg.

The distance was reset back to 1Mm to give the safe arrival distance

I'd rather the "safe exit speed" be increased or removed than increasing the size of the safe exit distance. If I can nail the 1 Mm drop zone at high speed, then let me. I'll accept the extra wear and tear on the ship as the cost of doing business.

I suppose I can already do this if I aim for ~10km, but that is a much smaller target than 1 Mm.
