safe disengage to inside a station, 3 mill credits losts, thankyou FD

so i safely disengaged from super cruse into a station and i appeared inside the structure of the station taking constant damage and unable to get out of the space inside the station, lost my ship (1.2 mil) and 232 tons of gold, thankyou very much FD thanks so much

what angle did you approach at? was the planet behind you or in front? did you disengage as soon as the blue safe message appeared or wait until the last second? i ask as the only time this has happened to me i was either coming in facing the planet or i dropped out of SC at the last possible second. come at it from inside the orbit of the star port and drop out right away and it will never happen as you appear too far away for the main body of the station while being in front of it instead of behind.

How close were you when you dropped out?

In Beta, players dropping out too close to the target (and ending up inside it or "in the walls") was a known issue.

There is a small chance that this can happen if you approach an Orbital (Orbis?) type station from directly behind. The drop-out distance of 7-10km from the centre of the docking bay part of the station is shorter than the length of the station that sticks out at the back, so you can end up caught in the framework.
The front of the station will always (in my experience) face in a roughly 180deg hemisphere towards the planet it's orbiting, so as AndyB said, always aim for the gap between the planet and the station and then turn towards the station before safe-disengaging. For extra safety, it also seems to help if you don't point exactly at the station, aim off a little to one side.

It may be a fairly rare occurrence but a 3m credit lesson is very unlucky.

None of that should matter - you should never be able to safe disengage and end up inside a station as a basic game mechanism. Had a few close calls myself, it's not good for the old ticker.

I dropped out 130 km from the station last night, so it can go either way.

Took a fair while to get there under normal steam.

I dropped out 20Km from one earlier...

because if u notice the bright blue safe distance bar, it DOESNT extend to the 0m distance, it goeso nly from 1mil m to something like 600 000m - meaning that if u safely disengage BEYOND that, you will NOT get auto-dropped at the same spot 7km from station, but you will get dropped variably scaled to the actual cruise disengage distance.

I suspect this is also why some people get ejected into stations - they drop at very last moment which probably scales to ten of meters from station('s centre?)...

It's rather strange design i agree - probably was attempt at keeping some skill in cruise dropout that kinda backfired...

What i find even more amazing: i havent seen anyone actually mentioning it so far - yet it is so obvious.. isnt it?

I tried to land "inside" but must have messed up on an Orbis today. I appeared beside the back end structure, very close. Luckily my aim is not that good...

3 hours of your life down the drain..

Yea, i'd ticket that....should have a fair shot at reimbursement i think.

I've lost a ship like that back in beta.

There is a way to safe yourself though, but in the initial panic and blood rushing to your head, it's easy to overlook.

Save + exit will safe your ship. When logging back in, your ship will be placed outside the station at zero speed.

No use to you now, but should it happen again, that's how to escape the problem.

gl with the ticket. :)

I don't get it why this is such a big issue to get this done right for FDEV.

In the Unity3D engine this should be very easy to resolve. For example I know the direction from where I approach the station and will spawn the player in the stations instance. So just pick the point for the spawn, do a collision check or cast a ray and see if the spawn is far enough away and if not move the player spawn X units away from it before spawning it. This should be very easy to resolve.

You can splat in to the back of Orbis stations if you jump in at the right angle :/

I think they should increase the jump in distance to 20km again. 8km is way to close really. Ive also had close shaves with other ships while jumping in so close.
