Sag A; Minimum Jump Required?

Just posting this as a fail-safe more than anything...

I've reached saturation point with The Bubble and need to be out in The Black again; planning on a very slow return trip to Sag A. I don't plan to be back before Yule....or Horizons, one of the two.

I have a fully kitted out Ratting Asp (32-ish ly) but the DBS has given me so much pleasure that it's only fair for me to take her. I know that the asp etc etc, but I enjoy the DBS, and part of the fun of exploring is flying, and the boat is a large part of enjoying the flying.

Question is, will the DBS have the jump range to (eventually) get me to Sag A or, is there a minimum jump range for the journey?

Time really isn't an issue for this journey; I have music, apps (ty Genar H), films, netflix, a 2nd monitor and 2nd account if needed for Bubble related stuff and my Co. Pilot Officer Jameson is good to go...tbh, the only reason I'm planning on coming back is to collect a scarab or two.

Were it not for Horizons...well, Bilbo summed it up quite nicely really:

"I need a holiday, a very long holiday...and I don't expect I shall return. In fact, I mean not to!"

Hard to say what the absolute minimum requirement is, but if you can do the first 4,000 LY which includes the gap between the Orion Spur (where Sol is) and the Sagittarius arm then you are good. I would expect that gap to be traversable with no more than 15 LY jump range.

Thanks for the reply, was all set to go...then saw that the DBS doesn't work as an Explo-Ratter, back to the Asp :(

Yeah it does. I made it across that gap in an Adder. A DBS is fine. The only issue is the fuel scoop which at 176/s feels slow. No chance of overheating if you're careful.

Yeah all was fine in Outfitting until I tried to setup my Fuel Rat stuff, not enough module space for the Scanner x 2, Scoop, cargo and Limpet controller :(

Still, CPLT Jameson is happy about this, he didn't fancy spending the next few months cooped-up in a one-man boat.

People have gone in a sidewinder which is 21Ly at best so I'd say you should be fine with a DBS.
Even fully loaded with weapons a Diamondback scout has 23Ly+ so as long as you don't fit B grade modules and have an A grade FSD you'll be fine...

When going to the core, jumprange isn't an issue. The suns get closer and closer together. The main issue is stamina and heat management. The more dense everything becomes the more likely will you be dropped between binaries eventually. Without heatsinks that can be catastrophic, so bring heatsinks. Heat damages modules, so bring AFMUs. I'm currently returing from there with my Asp, 20kly to home. Thankfully I was spared, but there were a few close calls.

I agree the Asp is not very fun to fly... I intend to buy a DBE when it is time to head out again... currently I'm doing mining. Yesterday I went just outside the bubble to mine in peace.. I kept being chased off by NPC pirates until I was about 400LYs out from civilization.. there I mined my T6 named the Mineral Swine full of palladium and other expensive stuff...
On my way home to sell it, while still outside the bubble, I was interdicted by an NPC Vulture, who claimed to have been lying in wait for me!.. Not a fun fight, unshielded, unarmed T6 which was allready down to 49% hull due to earlier escapes from NPCs, against a Vulture!... I got away with 19% hull remaining, and several cracks in the canopy. :)
Once safe at base, I sold all the mined sutff, and exploration data I had gathered with only my basic scanner on the way, (and I got about 10 first discoveries out of it! So close to civilization!), I sold the T6 as well.. clearly, I need an armed mining ship even for mining in the Black Reaches of Unclaimed Space... but what ship should that be?.. I still don't like flying the Asp!

Not sure what to say on this, never really considered arms/armour when I go walkabout; if I get interdicted I just dump chaff, boost and wake to another system.

Took the Asp on a test run last night, went straight up as far as I could go in order to see a black sky...may only be a game but it's a strange look out into nothing, then doing a 180 and looking down on the Galaxy; the game does a very good job of plugging into the Lizard Brain.

The upshot is, I don't like the Asp. It's the best explorer imo...but over the last few months I've realised I'm a 'small-boat' pilot and even the Asp is too big for me to find fun; but, the Black needs Fuel Rats so I've no choice :(

FD, please can the DBS have one more tiny tiny module, just for a Limper controller...pretty please?

My T6 Mineral Swine had no shields.. All space was used for cargo, a refinery and limpet controller.. and the BDS.. If I had shields on it, I suppose the Vulture attack would have been less harrowing. :) Also, from the NPC dialog there, I'm pretty sure this one attacked due to me being fully loaded with expensive stuff... he said something like "That's the ship I've been wating for! Full of goodies!".. then did the usual cargo or death threat and opened fire.

Nah, I get 'Full of Goodies' in my empty DBS...unless he means me or my ammo :D

Have you got chaff on-board? Submit, boost, chaff, high-wake ought to mean you can keep your t6 and not have to think about The Bumble Bee.

Well.. I suppose ammo can be expensive as well... :)

Yes, I did have chaff, without it I'm pretty sure I would have been blown up, Vultures have lots of firepower.. Submitting instead of fighting and losing would reduce the time of laser exposure, but for a time it seemed like I was winning! :)
