Sagittarius A* local sight seeing.

I'm only 4.5K LY away from Sagittarius A* and was planning on staying in the core for a while after I get there to do some scanning.

Does anyone have any recommendations of systems that are a must-see in the area (up to 2K LYs away)?

Great Annihilator is 3000LY "South" of Sag A*.

It's the second biggest known Black Hole in the galaxy, and although it's more than your specified 2000LY it's probably only a short detour from your current location.

Take a look at the community mapping project

The Great Annihalator. Also I recommend you to go all the way you can upwards or downwards, the view is amazing ;)

3000 is fine :)

When you say "south" I assume you mean back towards occupied space and not downwards

I plotted my route from occupied space to be 1000ly downwards, to see all the neutron stars and (not?) see all the blackholes :) My route back will be 1000ly upwards.

ok, i might be outing myself as stupid now... how exactly do you get to Sag A*? As in, what's the closest "plottable waypoint"? It does not show up on the map when I search for it...

I found it by typing "sag" in the navigation box. It'll find it right away. Same with "great"... takes you to the Great Annihilator.

The search box doesn't do wild cards or like searches...

So either just search for SAG to cycle through systems starting in SAG (as noted above Sag A* is first) or type the full name - SAGITTARIUS A*

Yes I mean back towards Sol. Great Annihilator is actually "galactic south-east" from Sag A*, I can't remember whether it's above or below the galactic plane though.

If you enter the full name, star chart will find it.
Due to bugs in the window manager and applications, sometimes blanks get copy/pasted, so watch out for these - then it doesn't work.

BTW, thanks for the tip with the Great Annihilator - I'm about 10k LY away from Sagittarius A*, now that the servers work. Just breaking in my DBE ;-).
